The United States of America is at the top of the papaya importers list. It is annually importing around 186,000 tons of papayas from top papaya exporters around the world. Singapore, with 26,000 tons, and El Salvador, with 16,000 tons papaya import are ranked at the second and the third position in the list.

Andhra Pradesh is the leading papaya producing state in India. It has all the right conditions required for the cultivation of this fruit. After that, Assam and Odisha are the second and third largest papaya producing states. While some of the papayas produced are consumed within the state, majority of it is supplied or exported at a lower papaya export price to other buyers. These states are the centers of papaya trading in India.

• Washington Papaya: It is an egg or round-shaped papaya that has a bright yellow skin.
