Cyclo Transmission Ltd. conducted a study in several sugar plants across India for crystalliser Drives based on speed and capacity of crystalliser, the Power consumption, size, maintenance frequency, and construction of the drives. It was observed that the power consumption of this application was two to three times the actual requirement at thecrystallisershaft. The existing drive unit was highly inefficient due to the double worm reduction arrangement. The maintenance costs of these units were alsohigherdue to open gearing.
As a solution to the above problems, Cyclo Transmissions Ltd. introduced planetary gearboxes forcrystalliserin Sugar industry. Cyclo planetary gearboxes have helped in reducing the power consumption to almost one third compared to conventional double-worm reduction drives. The drives are fully enclosed to provide sealing against dust and other foreign particles, and hence longer gearbox life. All gears and bearings are splash lubricated which also facilitates heat dissipation. The gearbox has a handle for manual operation in case of power failure.
CYCLO Crystalliser Keyed Series speed reducers are available in five models with a wide variety of reduction ratios and various choices of mounting options (Frame sizes). These units mount available in hollow shaft with torque arm.This drive builds with multi stages planetary (input side) and one stage spur (output side) hence offer the advantages of compact design, smaller size, required reduction ratios and higher efficiency than conventional Crystallizer drives.

Cyclo Shaft Mounted Speed Reducers are the most convenient method of reducing speed. SMR can be directly mounted on the drive shaft of the equipment to be driven. The direct mounting principle assures correct alignment and reduces foundation, couplings, etc. A torque-arm anchors the reducers and provides quick, easy adjustment of the wedge belts by means of its turnbuckle.
SMR is manufactured in twelve different sizes, and the Model No. is specified with respect to its rated torque capacity in Kg-m. The reduction ratios available are 5:1, 13:1 & 20:1. A very wide choice of output speeds can be determined by the use of an appropriate input belt drive.
Shaft mounted speed reducer can now be secured to the driven shaft by a unique bush locking system which overcomes the difficulties which can be experienced with other methods of mounting, particularly in corrosive environments. The principle of using locked tapers to secure power transmission components has been established for many years. The Thread Lock system is based on the well known locking capabilities of conventional taper bushes with one very significant difference. The thread lock bush has a series of short taper surfaces in the form of a continuous helix.
After the bush is screwed into the hub the reducer can be conveniently positioned on the driven shaft. Locking is effected by sequentially tightening the screws which draws the bush axially against the opposing tapers in the hub thus generating the clamping force along the whole length of the bush in contact with the shaft.

Cyclo had designed and introduced Drum Motors with Planetary Gears to suit Indian conditions with the feedback from customers and practical experience. This drive system for belt conveyor consists of drum, gearbox, electric motor, coupling and shaft where the gearbox and motor are embedded in the drum. These are a single body and offers rigid construction. The design with planetary gears allows uniform load distribution on gears and gives more factor of safety.
The Cyclo Drum Motor design is unique. It consists of input shaft connected to the motor and motor is connected to the output shaft through gearbox components and forming a single body. The Power of the drum is given through the rotating carrier. Drum motor consists of mainly electrical motor, planetary gearbox, mounting shafts (both stationary). Rotating drum is mounted on the shaft with bearings and drum flange. The gear system is of 2 stages or 3 stages planetary construction. Components of drum motor are manufactured to high quality standards and care is taken for standardization.
Drum shell is manufactured from steel pipe with parallel faces. Drum shells can be provided with crown faces to ensure correct belt tracking to belt manufacturers recommendations. Stator and rotor of the motor are insulated to class F, terminal box and total drum motor is designed for IP- 65 protection. Drum flanges are designed for optimum strength and rigidity. Shafts are manufactured from high carbon steels to resist bending and torsional stresses and maintain proper alignment of gears under critical load conditions.
