We provide Anti-Snake Venom that is a sterile preparation containing equine immunoglobulin fragments F (ab') 2. The antitoxic equine immunoglobulin and its derivatives are acquired from the serum of healthy equines immunized against venoms of different species of snakes. Composition : The Anti-Snake Venom is constituted in freeze dried powder and in liquid form. Herein, the dried powder is reconstituted with 10ml of sterile water for injection IP, which ultimately dissolves into transparent colorless or pale yellow liquid. This Serum contains antiviral substances which are procured from the blood serum of vigorous equines that have been immunized against rabies vaccination. Additionally, it also consists of anti-microbial agent known as cresol. Indications : Patients at risk of being exposed to rabies Contact with a rabid animal Contra-Indication : This Serum should be used with extreme caution with subject to history of allergic symptoms, hypersensitivity, or any other kind of allergic conditions. Warning and precaution : We recommend a skin test before applying Anti-Rabies Serum. This test consists of an intra-dermal injection with a 1:10 dilution of Rabies antiserum (0.1 ml) on the outside of the forearm so as to attain an orange ring type appearance (3 mm diameter induration). An equivalent intra-dermal injection of physiological saline solution is used as control. There should be a through observation made 15 minutes after intra-dermal injection is consumed which is considered to be positive; if erythema (>6 mm), local oedema or a systemic reaction is observed and the control shows no such dermal reaction. Advice : This serum is not itself a treatment but should be consumed in conjunction with rabies vaccine. A positive test result is not a formal contra-indication for the use of serotheraphy.
