Organic agriculture has been at the centre of debates around sustainable agriculture which emphasises not only on quantity but also on quality of production. pancharatna organic solutions (pos) aims at strengthening rural economy of india by empowering the farming community with scientific knowledge, knowhow and sustainable agricultural practices. At large, pos aims at contributing to the process of nation-building by partnering with farmers and other agricultural producers in the production of organic material. pos aims at facilitating this process in such a manner that provides farmers with an alternative mode of agriculture that makes them self reliant through a system that ensures assured returns with doorstep availability of inputs and expert advice for entire supply chain. Pos shall adopt a business model based on principle of integrated socio-economic development through contract farming, processing and production of raw material from various organic crops. Pos shall strive for providing a platform for contract farming, supply and marketing of organic raw materials at national and international levels. project organic aloe it is one of the projects of pos which envisages large scale production of organic aloe vera in order to establish a sustainable supply chain of organic raw material of aloevera for medicinal, aromatic, cosmetic and other health products. Salient feature of the project are as follows: • pos shall provide baby plants and organic fertilizer and organic medicines/pesticides • assured returns through buy back agreement between farmers and pos • pos has set a goal of 200 acres of aloevera cultivation in the first phase (april 2013-december 2014) • in next 5 years, ultimate goal is to expand this production to 5000 acres • majority of prospects (partnering farmers) shall be selected from the tribal belt of vadodara district • providing them with all the inputs and expertise necessary for the production of organic aloevera • larger network of pos partners with farmers, ngos, government agencies and corporate
