Gymnema Sylvestre is a member of the Asclepiadaceae family and a vulnerable species. The plant is a perennial, large, pubescent, woody climber that grows slowly and is found in central and peninsular regions of India.  It is also known as Gudmar, Gurmar or Merasingi in Hindi and Meshashringi (rams horn), Vishani or Madhunashini in Sanskrit. The leaves of the plant are elliptic, opposite or ovate and the small, yellow flowers are in umbellate cymes. The follicles are terete, lanceolate and can grow up to 3 inches long. The roots and leaves have medicinal benefits such as reduction of blood sugar levels, obesity etc.
