Deaerator Tanks

What are Deaerator Tanks :

TheDeaerator tankacts as aFeed Water Tankto store cold and hot fluid in order to remove dissolved air or non-condensable gases from the fluid.

Thermodynemanufactures Deaerator tanksthat suit the customer needs.

Deaerator Tanks Uses:

Water or any fluid which is used as a medium for heat transfer generally contains Oxygen and other non-condensable gases in it. These gases dissolved in a fluid acts as an insulation to heat transfer. Due to the presence of these gases in a fluid, heat transfer rates from fuel to fluid is generally reduced which in turn will increase the fuel required for heating, thereby decreasing the efficiency.

In deaerator tank ( aka Feed Water Tank), carbon dioxide (CO2), Non-dissolved Gas, and oxygen (O2) are released as gases and combine with water (H2O) to form carbonic acid, (H2CO3).

Deaerator Tank Working Principle
Deaerator tank works on a principle that:-

The solubility of gases in a fluid decreases with increase in the temperature of a fluid and the pressure of gas in a fluid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of gas above it, so removing the gas above the fluid decreases the pressure above the fluid and causes the gas dissolved in a fluid to escape the fluid in order to balance the pressure.

Condensate or process fluid returning from the process is generally at high temperature than the ambient temperature and the fluid which needs to be fed is at the lower temperature than the ambient. Both the feed and process fluid is kept together in a tank in order to increase the temperature of the feed by taking heat from the process fluid.

Also Read:Thermic Fluid Heater

Sometimes some part or partial steam is also injected into a tank through a perforated steam pipe to heat the feed water and to maintain its operating temperature. The level of fluid in a tank is such that, some space above the fluid is kept free for the air to escape the fluid. An air vent is provided at the top of the tank so that all the air could escape the tank leaving behind any vapor formed.

Thermodynemanufactures deaerator tanksthat come with adequate controllers for easy operation. Our deaerator tank is provided with thewater level controllerand thegauge glassto monitor and control the water level in the tank.

Safety Valveis provided on the top of the tank to prevent the operating pressure of the tank to exceed the design pressure.

Advantages of Deaerator Tanks :

  1. Removing these gases from the feed protects the boiler or heater tubes from getting corroded, thereby increasing the life of the equipment.

  2. Increases theefficiency of a boiler.

  3. It also acts as a Feed tank which provides Net Positive Suction Head to the feed.

Industrial Fans And Blowers

In aSteam Boiler operation assembly, Industrial Fans and Blowers are the heart of the system. They are responsible for all other subsequent operations taking place in a boiler i.e, combustion of fuels, generation of hot gases and transportation of flue gases through boiler tubes and other equipment.

Thermodyne Engineering Systemhas more than 20 years of experience inmanufacturing Industrial blower fansaccording to the system requirement. We believe that every system has a room for efficiency improvement and it can be increased to a greater extent with proper designing and operation of fans and blowers.

Depending upon the design of blades and its geometry there are 2 types of fans that serve the basic function of forcing the air into the system or drawing the air out from the system.

Every fan is unique and is manufactured keeping in mind the capacity of gas it needs to handle and system head requirement.

Forced Draft fansare used to force air into the combustion chamber, where it mixes with the fuel being supplied. FD fan is used to regulate an appropriate amount of air to fuel ratio in the combustion chamber to maximize the fuel efficiency. Amount of air required for the complete combustion of fuel is calculated using stoichiometry involved during the reaction of the fuel with air.

Generally, 30% excess air is provided for complete combustion of fuel but the excess air quantity depends upon the system to system and must be controlled during the operation.

Induced Draft fansare used in a system to draw flue gases from the combustion chamber and through the rest of the boiler assembly (Air Pre-heater, Dust Collectors, ESPs etc.) to the stack. Flow depends upon the amount of flue gases need to be drawn and head required to draw flue gases from the system depends upon the sum of pressure drops of all equipment installed in the path of the fan.

Also Read:ID Fan Motor Power Calculator

We, at Thermodyne, design, manufacture & supply both Induced and Forced Draft fansfor your system. We have also developed an online calculator for the customers for calculating the motor power required for operating fan at maximum capacity and head.

Specially designed, high-efficiency fans are offered for all boiler applications:

  • Forced draft & Induced draft fans for Boilers

  • Range varies from 1000 m3/hr to 50, 000 m3/hr flow and up to300Ctemperature

  • Can be offered with Variable speed controls depending upon specific requirements.

All the fans and its impellers are analyzed for balancing and vibrations before fitments to give increased efficiency, reduced power requirement, trouble-free and reliable performance.

Bolier Water Chemical

Boiler water treatment chemicals are employed for generating steam. The first performance of a boiler is to transfer heat from hot gases generated by the combustion of fuel into the water till it becomes hot or turns to steam. Boiler feed water typically contains impurities, that impairs boiler operation and potency. As a lot of steam is gaseous, the water becomes a lot of concentrated with salts and different impurities. These are usually Ca or Mg salts that on concentration, kind scales or deposits. These scales are terribly damaging to the boiler as a result of they interfere with the warmth transfer and might result in heating and eventually, boiler rupture. THERMODYNE Boilers Company chemical additives will be want to correct the issues caused by these impurities. to boost feed water quality, and steam purity, these chemicals will be injected directly into the feed water or steam.

Dust Collectors

All solid fuel fired boilers call for a suitable Air Pollution Control Device due to a high ash content. So Thermodyne provides you the Dust Collectors. During combustion, ash deposed of in several ways,

  • The large agglomerates range from fused lumps to the relatively small particles falling through the bars in to the ash pit or carried forward into the ash pit by some form of moving grate.
  • Deposit on internal surfaces, and
  • Small particles entrained in the flue gas stream, some to be rejected into the atmosphere.

The ash content varies from fuel to fuel and thus different designs of equipments are available for effective pollution control. These are called Dust Collectors since they are used to separate out and collect the dust or ash from the dust laden exhaust gases of the boiler. They are generally placed before the ID fan & chimney and thus also help to prevent corrosion of ID fans due to ash.
The methods of separating the dust from the flue gases are:

    Cyclone Or Centrifugal Collectors: -

This is the simplest type of collector. The cyclone relies upon the centrifugal force imparted to the gases by rotation within the cyclone to separate out the dust. Wide ranges of variations of the basic cyclone exist and are still in the process of development. The gas temperature at which a cyclone collector can operate is limited only by the material of construction, usually mild steel. The cyclone structure should be insulated to avoid condensation of the acid and moisture in the flue gas, which can lead to clogging at low temperatures.

    Electrostatic Precipitators: -

These operate by charging the dust particles as the dust-laden gas passes across electrically charged wires. The dust is then attracted to and collected on, oppositely charged plates, which are periodically mechanically rapped or vibrated to remove the dust adhering to them. To achieve optimum collecting efficiency the velocity of the gases through the precipitator must be uniform across the flow path, and this requires careful design of the inlet and outlet ducting.

Precipitators tend to be large and expensive when compared with most other collectors but they can achieve high collection efficiencies with fine materials.

    Fabric Or Bag filters: -

These consist of a series of woven fabric bags arranged in parallel on the gas side, through which the gases pass leaving the dust retained on the bag material. The dust is removed by periodic vibration or shaking of the bags. Due to the non-availability of suitable economic bag material, the maximum operating gas temperature is limited to about 260 Deg. Centigrade.
The gas pressure drop across a bag filter tends to be high, and increase as the deposited load on the bags increases.

    Gas Scrubbers: -

These are devices in which the dust-laden gas stream is brought into contact with the water spray. There are medium and high-energy types, the efficiency of mixing of the water and gas being a measure of the energy used and also of the collection efficiency of the scrubber. Depending upon the gas inlet temperature, gas scrubbers increase the volume of gas discharged to the atmosphere due to the volume of water evaporated, this can result in a visible plume at the chimney discharge even though there is a minimal solids content. This is often mistaken for smoke and hence dust emission.

    Combined Collectors: -

The aforementioned types of collector can be used in combination to achieve the desired emission levels, e.g. precipitators may be preceded by mechanical cyclones to remove the larger dust particles. There have been occasions when a high-efficiency bag filter has been used on the gas side in parallel with a mechanical cyclone, where the latter cannot alone achieve the design emission level and a bag of adequate size is too bulky and expensive. The proportion of gas flowing through each is selected to give the desired combined efficiency. Such a combination can give a lower capital cost scheme than a bag filter only. This procedure can be use as a retrofit, where the design emission has not been achieved by the originally installed cyclone or where the fuel conditions have changed, thus necessitating a higher collecting efficiency to achieve the desired emission etc.

    Air Preheaters

Air Preheaters (APH)is theShell and tube type Heat Exchangersused for preheating the air which is fed to the boiler or furnaces/kilns for combustion of fuels. Its primary objective is to extract the waste heat from the flue gases leaving the boiler.

Thermodyne Engineering Systems manufacture Air Preheatersand are given as a standard side accessory along with the main equipment Boiler, in aPackaged Type Boiler, Combi Boilers.

Why is hot air sent to the furnace?

For generating fire in a boiler furnace 3 main ingredients are needed: Fuel, Air and Ignition. Air is used in a Boiler for combustion of fuel. Based on the stoichiometry calculation, right quantity of air along with excess air is fed into the boiler furnace for the combustion of fuel. Generally, fuel fed to the boiler is at normal room temperature and for combustion of fuel to take place; the temperature of the fuel is increased from its room temperature to ignition temperature. So to increase the efficiency of combustion process as well as a boiler, hot air is fed to the furnace for the combustion of fuel.

    Type of Air Preheaters (APH)

We manufacture different type of air preheaters:-

    • Shell and tube type single pass air pre-heaters

    • Shell and tube type dual pass air pre-heaters

    • Finned tube air pre-heaters

    Working of Air Preheaters(APH)

Air Preheatershave a shell and tube type construction where exhaust heat from the flue gases is transferred to the air when they come in indirect contact with each other.

Air Preheatersconsist of a shell where tubes are arranged in a square or triangular pitch and are welded to a tube plate. Depending upon the type of operation and ease of cleaning, flue gases and air can be allowed to travel either shell side or tube side interchangeably.

Thermodyne Boilersfinned tube air preheatersare designed to maximize the efficiency by increasing the heating surface area without increasing the space requirement.

Thermodyne Engineering Systems manufacture air pre-heatersthat are tailor-made to suit the customers requirement. OurAir Preheatersare designed in both 1 and 2 pass for both flue gases and air to extract maximum heat from the flue gases.

Wemanufacture air pre-heatersfor wide capacity range and can satisfy the various fuel requirements of a customer such as:

    • Wood

    • Coal

    • Husk

    • Bagasse

    • Petcoke

    • Light Oil and Heavy Oil

    Air Preheater Pros

    • 2 pass design to extract maximum waste heat from flue gases leaving the boiler.

    • It is used to extract waste heat from the flue gases leaving the boiler exhaust thereby increasing the efficiency of a boiler by 2-3 %.

    • It is used to preheat the fuel which further increases theboiler efficiency.

    • Payback time is less.

    Air Preheater Cons

    • Adding and equipment or accessory in the path of flue gases increases flue gas pressure drop down the line, so the size of Induced Draft Fan increases.

Deaerator Tank Working PrincipleDeaerator tank works on a principle that:-

The solubility of gases in a fluid decreases with increase in the temperature of a fluid and the pressure of gas in a fluid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of gas above it, so removing the gas above the fluid decreases the pressure above the fluid and causes the gas dissolved in a fluid to escape the fluid in order to balance the pressure.
