A report by the FAO on the food wastage footprint has estimated that approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption in the world gets lost or wasted. Grown but uneaten food has significant environmental and economic costs. This food wastage represents a missed opportunity to improve global food security, but also to mitigate environmental impacts and resources use from food value chains. Statistics point to India being the 2nd Largest Food Producing Country in the world, largest in terms of food grains and milk, and second largest in terms of fruits and vegetables but sadly fruit and Vegetable processing in India is just 2 - 3% currently as compared to 23% in China and 60 - 65% in other developed countries. Obviously, the improvement in Food Processing capacity and infrastructure in India would not only help and benefit India but could provide incremental benefits by becoming a strategic contributor for food, health and nutrition to the whole world. Currently, the food processing industry in India is growing at the rate of 7% and is expected to grow from US$ 200 billion in 2008 to US$ 310 billion in 2015 with the highest growth in the fruits and vegetables sector (20%). Aamisha Foods wishes to position itself in order to help India gear up to meet the growing demand of food and water for a growing population in the years ahead.
