  DENTOSPONis made of foam gelatine and nely dispersed (colloidal) silver. Silver forms silver ions in moist conditions. Even small quantities of these ions are antimicrobial, without developping resistance. DENTOSPONis effective against all micro-organisms which are found in the oral cavity, particularly against gram-negative organisms. It has been found to be very effective against bacteria which are resistant to antibiotics

• The dry sponge is immediately placed in the fresh, blood-lled wound cavity and should be allowed to absorb as much blood as possible. The sponge must not protrude over the inner gingival margin so as not to adversely affect the desired epithelisation. This constitutes denitive treatment of the alveolus and there is no need for subsequent rinsing.

SURGISPONadheres to the bleeding site and absorbs approximately 45 times of its own weight of blood. It has a porous structure which activates the thrombocytes at the moment blood comes in contact with the matrix of the sponge. This causes the thrombocytes to release a series of substances which promote their aggregation at the same time as their surfaces change character, thus enabling them to act as a catalyst for the formation of the fibrin, which stops the bleeding.
