CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Various clinical studies have showed effectiveness of Karela in Diabetes. The main hypoglycemic components is a steroidal saponin, Momocharin (Charantin) with molecular weight of 9.7 kDa. The hypoglycemic action of Momocharin is due to its insulin-like structure. (1) Clinical study on cryopreserved human preadipocytes for Cytotoxicity, lipid accumulation, and adipogenic genes mRNA expression was measured. Study concluded that Bitter Melon is a potent inhibitor of lipogenesis and stimulator of lipolysis activity in human adipocytes mediated through molecular level mechanism.(2)
