ust as there are two basic types of aircraft engines, piston and turbine, there are two categories of aero engine lubricants, the piston engine oils and the jet engine oils. Each oil type is formulated using base-stocks and additives that reflect the requirements of the physical, chemical and performance characteristics imposed by the corresponding engine design and operating conditions. As a result of these differences, aviation piston engine oils can generally be blended from petroleum base-stocks, whereas the modern gas turbine oils are mainly of synthetic origin. Aviation piston engine oils are of two types, straight mineral and those containing additives, irrespective of the viscosity grade or composition of the base stock. The first petroleum based aviation piston engine oils developed were straight mineral oils. As their name implies, they contained no additives, but relied upon crude oil selection and refinery processing to impart the desired performance characteristics. Today, these oils may contain certain additives such as pour point depressants and approved oxidation inhibitors.

The evolution of hydraulic fluids has paralleled the history of aviation. In early years the hydraulic systems were required only to apply brake pressure. These systems used a vegetable oil or castor oil based fluid and natural rubber for seals and hoses. As aircraft designers produced larger and faster aircraft, the role of hydraulics expanded, becoming a key component in operating landing gears and flight controls.These applications resulted in higher pressures (1000 psi) and called for improved fluids. To meet these demands the aircraft industry turned to petroleum based fluids. Since the petroleum oils caused the natural rubber to swell, the aircraft designers switched over to synthetic rubbers such as Buna N or Neoprene.

Nycolube 235 nycolube 235 is a low smoke semi-synthetic 2-stroke lubricating oil developed for scooters and motorcycles used in severe conditions. nycolube 235 exceeds the api tc and jaso fc performance standards. nycolube 221 nycolube 221 is an upper tier, low smoke, fully synthetic 2-stroke lubricating oil. It is based on a specific diester for additional anti-seizure protection and contains a powerful high temperature performance package with excellent detergency. nycolube 221 exceeds the jaso fc and the iso egd global performance specifications. nycolube 221 has successfully passed the piaggio hexagon engine test. (solvent free version : nl 241)

NYCOLUBE 70xx series are synthetic lubricants based on neopolyol esters. They have been designed specifically for use in refrigeration systems working with hydrofluorocarbon as cooling fluid, the traditional (R134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R507, R23 etc…) mineral oils and alkyl benzene based lubricants being not compatible with these coolants.
