During the process of combustion, oxygen just play the role of combustion assistant, it can’t produce heat. Therefore, mixing too much methylal in oil will cause oil heating value decreased and increase fuel consumption. D. It will be emulsified when meet with water. Methylal is the product of methanol and formaldehyde dehydration under catalyst conditions, which methanol content is exceed. So when mix methylal with oil, water soluble test can’t be passed. Due to its disadvantages, methylal can not be added into oil in a large proportion, and the oil with small proportion methylal can’t be used in summer.
