Steel pipe sheet piles, in which steel pipe pile is provided with joints, are employed to construct high-rigidity walls. Steel pipe sheet piles are widely used in revetments, breakwaters, and excavation earth retaining walls. Similar to h-piles, pipe piles are also designed to transfer structural loads through the foundation to soils below. Where h-piles are typically classified as point bearing, pipe piles are most efficient as friction piles. Pipe piles have substantial surface area that interacts with the surrounding soil to provide great frictional load resistance. Pipe piles are also used in conjunction with sheet piles to add lateral stiffness and bending resistance where loads exceed the capacity of sheet piles alone. H pile is special h-shaped bearing piles with webs and flanges of the same thickness. They are used as bearing piles for foundation projects such as bridges and industrial facilities or as anchoring piles for quay or excavation walls.
