Oxalic acid is a strong dicarboxylic acid occurring in many plants and vegetables, usually as its calcium or potassium salts. Oxalic acid is the only possible compound in which two carboxyl groups are joined directly; for this reason oxalic acid is one of the strongest organic acids.

Lauryl alcohol has a characteristic fatty odor. It is unpleasant at high concentrations but delicate and floral on dilution. It has a fatty, waxy flavor. It may be prepared by hydrogenation of lauric acid; normally employed as a replacement for the corresponding aldehyde.
