Uses : Norethisterone is a man-made form of progesterone, a naturally occurring female heath hormone. It has a number of uses :

• Low-strength progesterone is used in oral contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy.

How it works : Norethisterone works by altering the lining of the uterus. Continuous exposure to norethisterone decreases the rate of growth of breast cancer cells.
Dosage : To be taken by female patients. Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration :

• Oral contraceptive pill - 350 mcg tablet.
• Pre-menstrual symptoms - 5 mg, two or three tablets a day from the 19th to the 26th day of your menstrual cycle (counting the first day of your period as day one).
• To treat abnormal, heavy or continuous bleeding during periods: 5 mg tablet, three times daily for ten days.
• To prevent abnormal, heavy or continuous bleeding during periods OR treat prolonged or heavy periods - 5 mg tablet twice daily from the 19th to the 26th day of your menstrual cycle (counting the first day of your period as day one).
