Natural stone is inherently hard and durable, and thus an ideal material for kitchen counter-tops and bathroom vanities. With proper care and maintenance, your natural stone counter-top can last for decades. The Granite you have selected for your home is an investment that will give you many years of good use. Here are instructions and recommendations for routine care and cleaning: DO: Dust surfaces frequently Do not use the stone counter top as a cutting board. This may scratch the stone and dull knives. Blot up spills immediately Use a clean cloth for best results Clean stone surfaces with a neutral cleaner, such as mild liquid dish-washing detergent and warm water. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing with the soap solution and wipe until dry with a soft cloth. Re-seal Granite every 6 months or at least once a year. (This is a service that we provide) DON’T: DO NOT use vinegar, lemon juice, ammonia or other cleaners containing acids. These products containing acids may etch the surface and reduce the sealer’s properties, DO NOT use scouring powders or creams; these products contain abrasives. DO NOT use cleaners that contain acids such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners, or DO NOT use tile cleaners Do NOT apply acetone or any type of paint thinner. SEALING NATURAL STONE Sealing natural stone is a simple process that prevents staining and maintains stone’s beauty. We recommend an impregnating sealer which penetrates the stone’s surface to protect it against moisture, dirt, and stains. Before sealing, a thorough cleaning is recommended to avoid sealing dirt and grease into the stone. The life of the sealer will depend upon the type and finish of the stone, the area of application, and its exposure to wear. A piece of stone which is sealed with an impregnating sealer and put in a closet will stay sealed indefinitely. Impregnating sealers are preferred to topical sealers because they increase both the longevity and quality of the protection. Although sealer makes the stone less susceptible to staining, applying when it is unnecessary just wastes time, effort, and money. A simple test to determine if your stone needs to be resealed is to sprinkle it with water. If the water beads up tightly, then the stone has maintained its seal. If the water soaks in or darkens the stone, then allow the water to evaporate and reseal. Granite sealers can last up to 15 years, depending porosity and type of granite. A general recommendation for residential flooring is to seal once every 5-10 years. Prior to sealing, clean your natural stone thoroughly with warm water and Mira Clean. Let the stone dry, and then begin working in sections. Apply the impregnating sealer using a clean towel, wiping on a thin coat on your stone evenly covering the entire surface with sealer. Allow the sealer to stand for approximately three to five minutes. Remove excess sealer by buffing with a clean dry towel. If the sealer actually dries on the surface, rewet with more sealer, and wipe dry with a clean terry cloth. Upon completion, wait 24 hours and repeat the water test. If the water beads up, you are finished sealing. If the water does not bead up, apply another coat of sealer. The process of sealing stone is straightforward and can usually be handled by a home owner as part of normal home maintenance. Sealing a kitchen counter-top will take about 30 minutes, but a large area of flooring can take considerably more time. If you prefer, contractors and restoration companies can take care of cleaning and sealing for you..
Granite is a natural rock which formed in the earth millions of years ago. Granite is a very rigid, non-malleable and hard igneous rock which is used for numerous purposes all over the world. The main composition of Granite is of feldspar and mica. The granite is taken from the earth and then cut into blocks. After this process it is slicing is done as per the requirement. These sliced pieces are thoroughly polished and given shape to use for residential as well as commercial purposes. The big pieces can be used for kitchen, floors, balconies and bathrooms, whereas smaller pieces can be used for tiles etc. If you walk into any historical structure, and you will notice that the elegance and majesty of the steps illuminate the magnificence of the building. Since the olden times, builders have fixated their eyes on the importance of staircases by adding a dimension of sophistication and elegance to the building exteriors and the interiors. The obsession to make staircases flawless has not tattered with the passage of time; but has only escalated a million imaginative designs over the years.
Granite is an igneous rock formed by volcanic action. Flecks of quartz, feldspar and mica give each tile a special character Our range of Granite is available in a choice of eight smooth and textured finishes : WATERJET : A non-slip matt finish, produced by working the surface of the stone with high-pressure water jets. HONED : A smooth finish with a slight sheen, produced by using a polishing head. SANDED : Sawn stone slabs are coarsely polished: this removes saw marks and leaves a semi-smooth, regular finish. CLEFT : With this traditional treatment the stone is riven along its line of cleavage to reveal the natural grain; this gives an undulating surface with great character. GRITBLASTED : A high-pressure airline projects coarse-grained grit onto the top surface of the stone producing a finish similar to cleft, but available on slabs of greater size. FLAMED : The top surface of the slab is burnt off, giving an irregular textured. FINISH TEXTURED : The top surfaces of sawn slabs are pneumatically tooled to produce a pitted or grooved surface. We are continually developing the range of finishes and can supply sample cards showing all materials and finishes. If you require a specialized effect we will be happy to discuss with you how it can be achieved.
