Diethylene Glycol also known as DEG is an organic compound whose molecular formula is (HOCH2CH2)2O It is an odorless and colorless liquid but with sweetish taste. It is poisonous in nature. Also, it is hygroscopic. It is miscible not only with water but liquids such as alcohol, ether, acetone and ethylene glycol. It is produced by hydrolysis of ethylene oxide and is derived as a co-product along with monoethylene glycol and triethylene glycol. It is used as a solvent. It is denser than water.

  Di-acetone alcohol is a compound consisting of one ketone and two alcohol functions. Its molecular formula is C6 H12 02. It is an oxygenated solvent. It is miscible in oil and is clear. It is found to be naturally occurring in form of Achnatherum robustum. It has neither colour nor any specific odor, making it colorless and odorless. It has low evaporation point and high purity. It is soluble in water, thus considered to be an ideal solvent for organic peroxides.

Xylene is a volatile organic hydrocarbon, with a sweet smell. It is a colourless liquid. The vapours are heavier than air and is flammable at room temperature. It is not soluble in water. One main use of Xylene is as a lubricant. It is used in motor oil or brake fluid. It is a component of paint thinners, waxes, polishes, antifreeze sealants and adhesives. Xylene is even used as a cleaning agent for integrated circuits, steel and silicon wafers. It is added to pesticides and disinfectants.
