White Portland cementis preferred for finishing and decorative works in concrete. The chemical requirements of white cement are generally the same as Ordinary Portland Cement except that the maximum iron oxide content is restricted to less than 1% and the requirement for loss on ignition is not applicable. White Portland Cement is manufactured from raw materials having very little iron and magnesia, primarily to improve its whiteness. The clinker of white cement has very low tetra calcium alumino-ferrite (C4AF) content and a high tri calcium silicate (C3S) content. High C3S content and fineness make white cements susceptible to shrinkage cracking.
