Beema Bamboo is Developed from the Open Pollinated Population of Bamboo Found in West Bengal, Followed By Further Selection and Tissue Culture Work to Improve and Stabilize Its Yield and Made the Plant Free from Disease. the Beema Bamboo Plant is Not Genetically Modified Organism and It is a Product of Conventional Breeding Which No Way Involved in Gene Modification. beema Bamboo Has 72 Chromosome (2n = 72) and Naturally Sterile, Hence the Bamboo Never Flowers. this Property of Beema Bamboo Made the Variety Perennial and Not Necessary for Replanting At Any Point of Time in Nature, all Bamboo Varieties and Species Flowers After a Particular Years Which Leads to Complete Death of the Plant, Followed By Re-plantation. the Beema Bamboo, Due to Its Sterile Nature, Avoids the Expenditure Due to Replanting. the Beema Bamboo is Free of Thorns Which Makes Many Common Bamboo Un-harvestable and also Habitats Reptiles like Snacks. in Most Part of the India Due to the Presence of Thorns and Snacks It is a Taboo Not to Grow Bamboo. However, the Preferred Soil is Light Soil, Loamy Soil, Red Soil and Sandy Loam Soil. Beema Bamboo Needs 2 Feet Soil Depth and the Ideal Ph is Between 5 to 6.5. However, It Can Be Made to Grow Up to 8 Ph By Required Correction for the Soil. the Water Requirement for Beema Bamboo is Similar to Sugarcane Which is 2000mm/annum. the Water Requirement for Bamboo Would Be 10 to 20 Ltrs. per Plant, Depending On the Day When the Beema Bamboo is Grown At An Intensity of 1000 Plants / Acre. Beema Bamboo Needs Ample Sun Light and Best Suited for Tropical and Sub-tropical Weather with 10 to 14 Hours of Sunlight. beema Bamboo Can Be Cultivated as 1000 Plants per Acre Similar to Sugarcane Cultivation with a Spacing of 10 Feet Between Rows and 4 Feet Between Plants. the Best Suited Irrigation is By Drip Along with Irrigation System to Supply Required Fertilizer to the Plants. the General Requirement of Fertilizer is 440 N:p:k per Hac/year. the Ultimate Requirement of Fertilizer and Water Would Be Decided Based On the Site Condition, Soil Condition and Water Quality and Rain Fall Pattern of the Particular Place. the Recommended Cultivation Practice for Beema Bamboo is “precision Farming” Which Involves Application of Required Nutrient and Water At the Appropriate Time At the Appropriate Zone as per the Requirement of the Plant. the Harvest of the Beema Bamboo Starts After 2 Years (24 Months). By Then the Bamboo Would have Grown to a Size of 3 Inches in the Bottom and 1 ½” in the Top with a Height of 15 Ft X 20 Ft, Each Culm Weighing 6 to 10 Kgs. Dry Weight. Under Ideal Condition, the First Year On An Average 7 to 8 Poles is Harvestable, Which Amount to 30 Tonnes of Dry Biomass Weight 10 to 12% Moisture.
