Auto Guide With Manual Arrangement

In a Paper Machine there are several forming wires and felts, called fabrics in general, that function to support the paper being manufactured. These Fabrics travel over a number of rolls in cyclical patterns. Since all these Rolls cannot be exactly aligned with each other, certain devices called the Guiding Systems are needed to keep the fabrics running properly in the centre of the rolls.

A Wire and Felt Guiding System is composed of mechanical devices used to keep the fabric running properly in the centre of the rolls over which it travels. This is done by pivoting one end of the guide roll in the proper direction to correct the errant fabric travel.

H & T Proportional Bellows Auto Guide avoids damage to wire or felt caused by their cross-directional movements, over running or pre-mature creasing and thus saves the resultant loss of production. An Auto Guide is the most convenient, reliable and economical device using mill's normal air supply for its auto operation.

Principle of Guiding
The guiding of fabrics is based on the principle that the fabric will always leave a roll perpendicular to its rotational axis. This is governed by the direction of fabric travel. This dictates that the fabric will always travel towards the end of the roll it encounters first. Hence, the Guide Roll is automatically moved to change the fabric travel.

H & T Wire and Felt Guide mainly consist of a pneumatically operated automatic guide and a sensor to control the movement. The auto guide holds the bearing housing of one end of a roll and moves it back and forth using Air-pressurized Rubber Bellows. The sensor is a control device for the guide and regulates the air flow to each of the Guide Bellows.

When triggered appropriately, the Rubber Bellow Swivels the Guide Roll, mounted on-site on the positioning unit, in any direction. An Edge Sensing Device is required to control the guide that continuously monitors the fabric run that minimizes wear by avoiding fabric run-off. It determines the actual position of the fabric and specifies its target position. The one supplied with the system is the contacting pneumatic type palm assembly.

Dryer Rope Rings

The most frequently asked question by a paper mill is, What if our dryer cylinders have no grooves for rope?

H & T found the solution to it by providing a separate grooved ring. The grooved ring diameter is approximately the same size as the cylinder diameter and can easily be mounted over the dryer cylinder face. The width of the ring may vary from 50mm and above. For Mild Steel Cylinders the ring is directly welded to the face of the cylinder. For Cast Iron cylinders the ring is mounted to the face of the cylinder through bolts and mounting blocks provided with ring.

      Pumping Station

      The Starch Spray System is designed as an answer to improve the bursting factor of paper. Indian Paper Mills, Kraft Paper Mills and Corrugated Container manufacturers have traditionally had access to inexpensive virgin fiber that could be mixed with hardwood or softwood to reach required strength. That has changed in recent years, with increasing dependence on recycled fiber sources, especially for liner board and medium grades.

      However, as the fibers are recycled, they get shorter and weaker which results in a lower grade product with less final sheet strength. Synthetic additives to enhance product strength have often been prohibitively expensive in a marketplace where profit margins have been ravaged by declining paper prices.

      Now, a cost-effective starch spray solution has emerged in India that is designed to boost paper strength (up to 100% in IGT, 25% in Concora, and 20% in CFC and Mullen) while cutting fiber use by replacing much of the fiber with starch.

      Principle Of System :
      Essentially, special Spray Nozzles apply an unmodified starch suspension to the fiber web of paper products to increase their internal strength and improve their surface properties. The starch stays internally on formed sheets and gelatinizes while drying. In its Starch Spraying System, processed water mixes with starch to create slurry that flows into a run tank, which is sprayed onto the sheet former.

      The process of Starch Spray is based on the principle that the starch solution is sprayed through a spray bar over the wire section where it discharges starch on the paper. Maximum retention, of up to 80%, of starch takes place so that the bursting factor of the paper gets improved. It is achieved at the point where the dryness of the paper starts. The Solution used is generally 30gpl. However, it may change according to process requirements.

      Design :
      H & T Starch Spray System consists mainly of a two tanks for the preparation of starch solution. It is then transferred to Nozzles attached on a shower pipe over the machine through end suction centrifugal pump operated by a motor. The Starch Solution also passes through Stainless Steel Duplex Water Filter. There is also a provision to add fresh water and to bypass the excess starch solution back to the tank in case it is not used.
      • Tanks : Preparation and Service Tank along with Agitator and Motor.
      • Pump : End Suction Centrifugal Pump.
      • Motor : 10 HP, 3-phase, Frequency 50 or 60 Hz.
      • Filters : SS 304 Duplex Quick Release Filters
      • Spray Pipe : With Fish Tail Nozzles to cover complete Paper width or Mould width
      • Linear, Angular & Vertical Positioner : Positioners ensure spray at the correct point so that maximum benefits can be achieved.
      • Angular movement is caused by a gear box.
      • Vertical Movement is caused by a wheel through spindle and nut.
      • Horizontal Movement along the machine direction is through a slotted channel.
