Zostavax is a vaccine used to prevent herpes zoster, also known as shingles, and the associated nerve pain (post-herpetic neuralgia) in adults 50 years of age or older.   It's a live attenuated vaccine, meaning it contains a weakened version of the chickenpox virus, which can reactivate and cause shingles. While previously available, Zostavax is now considered discontinued, and the CDC recommends Shingrix for shingles prevention instead.
