Manufacturer / Supplier / Retailer Of Low Carbon Steel, Medium Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Austenitic Stainless Steel, Martensitic Stainless Steel, Ferritic Stainless Steel, non-ferrous, Special Materials, Plastics

Generally they contain less than 0.25% carbon. SAE Grade 2 (Metric class 4.6, 4.8 & 5.8) fasteners are made with AISI grades 1006, 1010, 1016, 1018, 1022 & 1035 being low carbon steels.

They have a carbon content between 0.25% to 0.60%. SAE Grade 5 (Metric class 8.8) fasteners are made out of medium carbon steels with AISI grades 1038, 1541, 5132 & 5135 and also ASTM A194 Grade 2, 2H, & 2HM, ASTM A325, ASTM A449.

These are carbon steels that have additives eg. boron, manganese, chromium, silicon etc. SAE Grade 8 (Metric class 10.9, 12.9) fasteners are generally manufactured out of alloy steel with AISI grades 4137, 4140 (B7), 4340 & 5140 and also ASTM A307 - Grade ABC, ASTM A194 Grade 4, 7, & 7M, ASTM A193 B7 & B7M, ASTM A320 Grade L7, L43 falling into this category.

They have a chromium content between 15% to 20% and nickel between 5 % to 19 % and offer a higher degree of corrosion resistance than the other two types of stainless steels.

They contain between 12 % to 18 % chromium, can be hardened by heat treatment, have poor welding characteristics, and are considered magnetic.

They contain between 15 % to 18 % chromium and is a non heat-treatable, magnetic and has very poor weld characteristics. It should not be used in situations where the likelihood of corrosion is high and includes grades 430 (F1) & 430F.

Materials used are Cupro nickel 7030 & 9010, Copper, Silicon bronze, Phosphor bronze, C63000, Aluminium bronze, Manganese bronze, Brass, Nickle, and Titanium.

These materials are often referred to as super alloys because of their ability to perform in extremes of temperature or posess extremely high strength qualities as compared to standard fasteners materials. Following are some of the common special proprietary materials that are used for the manufacture of fasteners for special applications.

Plastics are light-weight, non-metallic and non corrosive under normal circumstances. The characteristics of plastics may be further enhanced by chemical and fiber additions to increase strength, hardness, flexibility, temperature and ultra-violet resistance.
