Roller bandages have many uses, including:
  • Holding dressings in place: Apply a pad or dressing to the wound, then wrap the bandage around it, starting at the bottom and working up. Each wrap should overlap the previous one by at least a third.

  • Supporting injured limbs: Roller bandages can support injured limbs like the ankles, knees, wrists, or elbows.

  • Limiting swelling: Elevating the injured limb with a roller bandage can help reduce swelling.

  • Maintaining pressure on wounds: Roller bandages can be used to apply pressure to wounds.

  • Making slings: When opened up, roller bandages can be used to make slings to support, elevate, or immobilize upper limbs.

Here are some tips for applying a roller bandage:
  • Keep the rolled part of the bandage above the injury and the unrolled part below.
  • Start by wrapping twice around the injury to hold the end in place.
  • Wind the bandage in spiraling turns, making sure that each new layer covers 2 thirds of the previous one.
  • Finish by wrapping the bandage around once more and securing the end.

Roller bandages are a common type of bandage found in most first aid kits. They come in different sizes, widths, and lengths.
