The towed array system is an acoustic sonar array meant for acoustic data signal acquisition, conditioning, conversion and transmission of the acquired signals to the on-board electronics of the system. the array is towed behind a surface ship and trails behind the ship when deployed. the tow cable is long enough, making it possible to tow the array far behind the ship so that noise radiating from the ship does not interfere with the noise picked up from targets
