Silicon Carbide Refractories are produced from fused silicon carbide grains. Where this synthetic material is produced by fusing silica with carbon in high temperature electric furnace. They have very high thermal conductivity in comparison to that of alumina based refractories, it also possesses good corrosion and thermal shock resistance. They can also withstand flame erosion and slag attack. This inherent characteristics of the Silicon Carbide material makes it fall under the category of advance refractories.
