L&T-MHPS Boilers (formerly known as L&T-MHI Boilers)also provides large capacity coal pulverizers which use Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems advanced Mitsubishi Rotary Separator to achieve higher fineness directly resulting in improved combustion efficiency and lower emissions. Since these are large capacity pulverisers, they reduce the number of pulverizers that are required to be used with the boilers, effectively reducing maintenance costs for customers.
L&T Power has a large pool of experienced piping engineers, specialised software, and state-of-the-art manufacturing set-up for carrying out critical piping work for power plants. Our capability includes alloy steel piping for high pressure and high temperature steam conditions, feed water systems and complete power cycle piping in boiler and turbine islands.
L&T Power has set up a heavy foundry with a capacity of 2500T per annum. The foundry would be capable of producing castings of up to 60 MT, making L&T Power only the second company in India with such capability. The foundry will cater to the heavy casting needs of supercritical boilers, turbines, and related auxiliaries.
L&T Power, through the Heavy Engineering Division (HED) of L&T group, also supplies heat exchangers and vessels for power plants. HED has long proven experience in design, manufacturing and delivery of high-pressure and low-pressure heat exchangers, condensers and de-aerators.
Variable pitch axial fans are used where high volumes, high aerodynamic performance and precise flow control are required, and where reliability and continuous running for extended periods are demanded. They are the fans of choice in critical applications for large boilers within the power industry, where they are used in both primary air, forced draught and induced draught applications.
Power boilers require highly efficient and reliable air pre-heaters to ensure optimum performance. The core of the pre-heater, the heat exchange surface, is composed of several hundred tonnes of metal plates known as elements. As the pre-heater slowly rotates, at around 1-2 rpm, the elements collect heat from the hot gas stream being discharged from the boiler and then transfer it to the cold air stream entering the boiler. This can provide improved efficiency and boiler performance, thus leading to reduced CO2emissions from the boiler.
L&T-MHPS Turbine Generators Private Limited (formerly L&T-MHI Turbine Generators Private Limited), a JV between Larsen & Toubro & Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) of Japan, manufactures supercritical steam turbines of up to 1000 MW rating. Through a technology transfer agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan, the company also manufactures generators to match the specified range. MHPS products have the added advantages of ease in maintenance, reduction in vibration stresses and better performance in a corrosive environment. The JV also offers state-of-the-art facility for Generator Testing and High Speed Balancing.

L&T Power offers vertical and horizontal Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) for heat recovery from gas turbine exhaust gases. The range includes unfired, fresh air-fired and supplementary fired HRSGs up to triple pressure levels, with or without reheat. L&T Power is the first in India to have designed, manufactured & commissioned an HRSG downstream of an 'F-technology' gas turbine of 250 MW class.
So far L&T has supplied more than 20 (vertical / horizontal) Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) for gas turbines ranging from 20 MW to 233 MW. L&T also has the distinction of having supplied the largest HRSG in Asia (9FA gas turbine, fired, 3P with reheat for the Vemagiri project).

L&T has a long-term technical licence agreement with Chiyoda Corporation, Japan, for its Chiyoda Thoroughbred 121TM(CT-121TM) Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) technology. The agreement grants L&T exclusive rights to undertake EPC of CT-121TMFGD systems. The CT-121TMFGD process is a unique technology in which sulphur dioxide is absorbed from flue gas generated by coal-fired, oil-fired and other types of boilers and removed as gypsum. This technology is highly efficient, enabling low-cost removal of flue gas SO2. Moreover, it ensures that the plant remains compact and easy to maintain.
L&T-MHPS Boilers Private Limited, a joint venture of Larsen & Toubro Limited and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Limited, Japan, has a technology licence agreement for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems with MHPS. The agreement is for design, engineering, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and sale of new boilers under BTG, EPC or SG packages or standalone SCR systems, and for existing and under construction boilers on exclusive basis in India. The SCR systems limit oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions.
For power plants above 300 MW capacities, L&T supplies Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) under a technology license agreement with Clyde Bergemann, USA. Advanced technological features of the product ensure energy efficiency and low downtime.
Collaboration with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), Japan has helped L&T Power enhance its design and manufacturing capability for steam turbines that are used in advanced class gas turbine combined cycle plants. Its turbine JV with MHPS is capable of supplying these steam turbines at ratings of 150MW and 300MW.
