Our Leather Factory Shop is situated at the Crocodile Ranch and Nature Sanctuary. A small river, known as Spencer’s Creek, flows through the Crocodile Ranch and meets the mighty Zambezi River navigated by David Livingstone in 1853. The Leather Factory Shop is less than 5km from the Victoria Falls itself - one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the world. The waterfall is an incredible sight with 500 cubic millimeters cascading down per second. It is the widest waterfall in the world at 1700 meters wide and 111 meters high. Combine this with the numerous activities available, and you have an incomparable tourist destination. History The 12 acre Crocodile Ranch was started in 1970 with a mere 100 crocodiles. This family business has grown considerably over the past 30 years and there are now over 40 000 crocodiles from the tiny hatchlings to 5 meter giants. The Leather Factory workshop is situated right beside the crocodile ponds. The Ranch is open to visitors and offers a fascinating day out. Products and Craftsmanship Only the highest quality crocodile and ostrich skins are used in making a wide range of items available. The leather is tanned using the latest technology and an assortment of colors is available to suit individual taste. As well as our exquisite selection of handbags, purses and wallets, our highly skilled staff can make up customized articles. Anything you want, we can make! 12 local craftsmen living in Victoria Falls produce the leather goods and many have been with The Leather Factory Shop since it started. Each person has taken part in comprehensive on-site training as well as courses with the Leather Institute of Zimbabwe. Every product is handmade and individual care is taken to ensure that the finest quality is generated. Conservation The Leather Factory Shop is very involved in the conservation of crocodiles and sustainable utilization of animal products is considered one of the best forms of conservation. The Leather Factory Shop has been licensed by the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Association to produce and sell game skin products. Every item is monitored by CITES, the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species, which is recognized worldwide.
