The Khollar Beans, the local name, is actually the dried (French) beans. This is grown in various parts of Nagaland. However, the cultivation is concentrated in Tuensang District, on the border with Myanmar. Scientifically called Phaseolus Vulgaris, what makes this product from Nagaland special are that they are grown using traditional tribal methods of organic cultivation. They are then naturally dried in the sun. No chemical is used in attempts to enhance the productivity. The tendency among the tribes is that they are suspicious of chemicals, and unknown materials, and they prefer their own known methods of cultivation handed down to them by their forefathers.
