Thumb Sucking Habit breaking Devices or habit breakers has become a very popular device nowadays. These are designed to create an uncomfortable environment and disrupt the patient from placing the thumb into the palate. This habit is disruptive to the development of dental arches and the position of teeth during childhood growth and will displace the Dental arches pushing teeth away from the natural position leaving problems such as Anterior open bites and spacing of the front teeth. Children who develop anterior open bites due to thumb sucking will require extensive orthodontic treatment to correct to malocclusion. This is a very effective and cost effective appliance to prevent developmental issues with the thumb sucking patient.

This is an appliance choice for poor co-operating patients. It can be given along with the fixed appliance where we can use as an anchorage unit along with TPA.

An anterior biteplate is an appliance that would fit snuggly to the palate of the patient and disarticulates the front teeth. The concept of this appliance is to separate the posterior teeth to help posteriors to supra irrupt in deep bite cases or to correct posterior cross bite along with fixed appliances,
The appliance is retained in the mouth with the help of the clasps found in the appliance. Adams clasps around the molars or ball clasps in the space between teeth are most commonly used for this purpose of retention.

Same concept as an anterior biteplate except it comes between upper and lower posterior teeth, causing an amount of space to be available between the upper and lower anterior teeth. This in turn would allow the anterior teeth to erupt.

A posterior biteplate is used to correct an anterior open bite It is often used with other appliances such as an expander. It does so by allowing the anterior teeth to erupt (extrude) while preventing the posterior teeth from erupting (some relative intrusion of the posterior teeth).May also be used along with fixed appliances to allow the trapped tooth to come into occlusion.
