A rubber bulb is used for pumping air into the cuff.
Air is pushed into the cuff when you squeeze the bulb. The pressure in the cuff will be not high enough after only one squeeze, however. A few squeezes are necessary to increase the pressure to the desired level. To prevent the air in the cuff flowing back into the bulb, a one-way valve is built in the housing of the pressure release valve. Since air goes out of the bulb, we will refer to it as the outlet valve. Often this valve is a small rubber tube with a slit in it and which is closed at one side. It only allows air to pass through when pressure is applied from inside by squeezing the bulb

The length of the cuffs bladder should be at least equal to 80 percent of the circumference of the upper arm. Wrap the cuff around the upper arm with the cuffs lower edge one inch above the antecubital fossa.Slowly Deflate the BP cuff Begin deflation, the pressure should fall at 2 - 3 mmHg per second, anything faster may likely result in an inaccurate measurement.
