We are a village enterprise based in Sonitpur, north bank Assam working with local communities who are affected by human-elephant conflict (HEC). Objective: Enable affected communities to find additional sources of income to supplement their earning from paddy farming & Prevent rural communities from reaching a stage where they have to stop farming, sell their land or migrate to urban areas due to human-elephant conflict Planned Initiative – Building Sustainable Livelihoods Phase 1: Handloom & Handicraft Unit + Saneki Collective – Rural Tourism Activities Please see our Building Sustainable Livelihoods section to know more about these initiatives. Phase 2: Small Scale Food Processing Unit We currently have a small scale food processing unit called TRIPTI, which is run by self-groups under the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MASK) Currently Processed: Locally available fruits and vegetables into pickles and juice. Sold in the local market only. Future Plans: We aim to scale up this operation as a joint initiative with MASK to enable more women to gain employment and also create a product line that can be marketed globally. We would also like to set up a Research and Development farm where we can try high value crops which can then be processed into pickles,jams and juices . Provide knowledge and market access in partnership with established agro based corporates. Improve Product Packaging. Work with the Assam Agricultural University to document and integrate indigenous knowledge of agricultural technology to create processes that combine traditional knowledge and modern science to improve agri production Objective: Support capacity building of local communities with knowledge and market access Planned Initiative - Community Capacity Building Phase 1: Relevant workshops to be conducted providing access to address gaps in knowledge Please see our Research & Capacity Building section to know more. Phase 2: Provide a space where interested members of the community can learn how to use the internet and other relevant computer skills to improve their knowledge,exposure as well as expand their job prospects.
