A wheelhead traverse structure requires a stronger foundation than a table traverse structure. Okuma’s high-rigidity technology meets the conditions needed for a wheelhead traverse structure to achieve a compact body. The upper portion of the front door can accommodate various loader positions. Line flexibility from the space-saving design also contributes to greater automation. An oil pan structure to minimize effects on the coolant, high following characteristics carefully fitted with a V-plane slideway, and other individual technologies on each part of the machine further improve machining accuracy. “Chatter control function” automatically changes wheel speed and controls regenerative chatter. The MU-4000V has a very rigid roller gear cam suited to high-speed drive on the trunnion table B-axis, and a direct drive motor that produces high torque even at low speeds on the C-axis. The class best Y-axis travel is fully utilized with a highly rigid traveling column, for powerful cutting along the entire Y axis. Turn-Cut is an original Okuma technology that enables turning on a milling spindle. The circular turning of the feed shaft and the spindle indexing angle are simultaneously controlled so that the tool edge is always facing the center of the milling spindle circular turning. Sloped axis turning can be done by sloping the B axis. Moreover, machining of any diameter can be done with a single tool. Inside and outside diameter machining that is larger than the maximum tool diameter can be done. In setting cutting conditions, the Turn-Cut Guide (Optional) advises the best turning speed when the diameter and roundness of the machining area are designated.
