Cooltar-CE(CQS) Micro-surfacing Emulsion

Micro-surfacing Emulsion(PME - Polymer Modified Emulsion) Micro-surfacing is a high-performance cold-applied thin layer bituminous surfacing which is used for preventive maintenance and renewal treatment of flexible and rigid pavements. Since this technology is applied in thin layer even for high traffic roads and highways, it requires a special grade of Polymer Modified Bitumen Emulsion (PME) which rectifies surface defects including minor cracks, dry & hungry surfaces, wear and tear due to traffic movement. Also micro-surfacing is a quick traffic technology where its components are mixed and laid on road in the single-step process using special pavers, the Polymer Modified Bitumen Emulsion is custom made based on the physical, chemical properties of aggregates, weather conditions and type of grading of aggregates. When applied on road, this PME sets fast, build cohesion quickly and allows the opening of traffic within 1 hour. Petrochem Specialities had over 14 year of experience in the formulation of project specific Polymer Modified Micro-surfacing Emulsions using different types of high-performance emulsifiers, variety of latex polymers and other performance additives. With well equipped laboratory having special testing equipment like Cohesion Tester, Wet-track Abrasion Tester, Schulze Breuer Tester, Boiling water Stripping Value apparatus, Consistency tester etc, we ensure best in class materials for our customers. Physical Properties : “COOLTAR-CE” CQS grade is fine dispersion of bitumen, latex polymers and performance additives in water stabilized by very special grades of high performance cationic emulsifiers and stabilizers. This PME is free flowing brown viscous liquid in cold state and is ready to use product at project site. Since the stone aggregates (specially Stone dust) and environmental conditions are different project locations, to ensure proper mixing of PME with other components of micro-surfacing in pug mill of special paver and then application of same on the road surface in a definite thickness, consistency and texture, each site requires a different mix design with change in PME formulation. The design process of COOLTAR-CE CQS grade starts with detailed analysis of stone dust and coarse aggregates collected from the project site. Based on gradation, reactivity and physical properties of these aggregates, different formulations of PME are made in lab scale bitumen emulsion plant and tested for mix properties and performance after setting.      Important Parameters of PME : Polymer Modified Micro-surfacing Emulsions (PME) are the most important component of this technology as they have to bear the entire stress of traffic and environmental conditions to perform for years at application site. Since they are applied in a thickness of only 6 to 8 mm, it becomes even more important for the PME to provide: mechanical bonding, elastic strength, anti-oxidation properties, continuous mat, skid resistance, water repellency,   fine texture and prevent raveling. MoRTH and IRC:SP-81 have standard specifications for Micro-surfacing emulsions in India, which needs to be strictly followed to ensure stability of micro-surfacing layer for years. The most important parameters are Softening Point, Elastic Recovery, Penetration Value and Ductility of binder recovered after evaporation of water from the PME. Cationic Latex  (Natural Rubber) Modification of Bituminous products requires addition of an ingredient that changes the rheological properties specially elasticity, resistance to wear deformities etc. “CATLEX” is the cationic latex of Natural Rubber, which gives excellent cohesion properties and compatibility with Bitumen and emulsions. This Latex provides a better alternative to synthetic rubbers due to its better elastic properties and superior field performance required for cold mix bitumen technologies including micro-surfacing. “CATLEX” is chemically modified and stabilized form of natural rubber latex. Physical Properties : “CATLEX” is a fine suspension of positively charged particles of Natural Rubber in water under the balancing force of stabilizing agents. The pH is slightly acidic. The solid rubber obtained from “CATLEX” shows the same physical properties, as that of obtained from natural latex, however there is slight variation in affinity profile. It is freely miscible with all grades of cationic bitumen emulsions except oil-based priming emulsions (invert emulsions). Since “CATLEX” is chemically modified with organic surface-active agents and pH stabilizers, this product is not recommended for use in production of personal hygiene products, latex based laminates and industrial products sensitive to acidic pH. The sole recommended application remains in the field of cold mix asphalt applications specially Micro-surfacing, Cold-mix surfacing including premix carpet, bituminous macadam, bituminous concrete, fog seal, soil stabilization etc. This product provides cohesive strength, flexibility in low-temperature area, prevention of UV oxidation, resistance to rutting, prevention of raveling, protection from water damage and retention of surface texture.   Source of Raw Material : Natural rubber latex is a milky colloidal solution obtained from Hevea brasiliensis plants. Natural rubber is extracted from plants by tapping and collecting the raw latex in cups or glazed pottery containers guided by GI sprout. The collected “field Latex” is processed by removing coagulated rubber and impurities by filtering, adding ammonia to prevent further coagulation, removal of proteins and concentrating the latex by centrifuge method & creaming. To ensure consistent quality, latex is selected from a fixed geographic location . Procedure for Blending : As “CATLEX” is readily dispersible in most grades of cationic bitumen emulsions, it can be conveniently mixed with pre-formed emulsions or in soap phase before emulsion production. The following methods can be used for its addition: (1) Direct blending with ready emulsion  in storage drums / tank: Required quantity of CATLEX can be directly blended with ready emulsion in storage drums or tanks by simple addition and rolling / stirring the emulsion for 5 minutes. After stirring, the modified emulsion is ready for use as required. This method is recommended where prolonged storage of emulsion is expected, so CATLEX can be added at the time of use for better storage stability. (2) Pre-addition to soap solution: Required quantity of CATLEX can be added to soap solution after adding emulsifier and acid to the hot water before making emulsion. This method provides more effective mixing as CATLEX treated soap solution is milled through colloid mill for high shear mixing. Recommended where modified emulsion is expected to be used earlier. Difference between Natural and Synthetic Rubbers : Natural Rubber: Natural product, Better Elastic Properties, wear resistance, high resilience, tensile strength, elongation profile, dynamic performance. SBR Rubber: Synthetic product derived from petrochemicals, high temperature stability, tensile strength, oil resistance, aging properties, non-biodegradable.

W arm Mix Asphalt Additive for low-temperature asphalt paving Warm-mix is a form of Hot-mix Asphalt produced and laid at lower than recommended HMA temperatures to decrease fuel consumption, reduce greenhouse gases and to achieve same degree of mix compaction even at lower temperatures. The additives used for this purpose are called Warm-mix additive and they include a range of chemical and wax-based products. During initial evolution of warm-mix concept, most of the additives contained water to achieve “foaming” of bitumen resulting in warm mix properties. These additives carried a number of problems like uncertain results, induced stripping, tedious process, increased oxidation and premature failure of pavement, human health hazard etc. With the advancement of technology, fat, chemical and wax-based meltable solid type additives were introduced by many reputed organizations with varied levels and advantages in terms of dose, emission, field performance, stripping and oxidation control etc. In latest of Warm-mix technology, very high performance liquid additives were introduced with advantages of low dose, easy mixing, safe handling, maintain temperature during haulage, outstanding control of stripping, minimized oxidation, cost effective etc. “WETBOND-WMA” liquid is the shining star of this category of low dose, high-performance additives with unique feature of being non-hazardous. Physical Properties: “WETBOND-WMA” liquid is a brownish dark oily liquid at room temperature. This product has a characteristic fatty smell. When added to the hot bitumen, it readily disperses with minimal stirring and lowers the surface tension of bitumen for easier wetting of aggregates. The achieved lower surface tension remains active until the temperature of asphalt mix is dropped below 80 degree centigrade, after which the asphalt mix properties return back to normal. “WETBOND-WMA” in its normal dose, does not have any significant effect on physical properties of bitumen. It however enhances the “flow” properties of asphalt mixes for easy compaction even at lower temperatures. This product also provides excellent water protection (Anti-stripping) and anti-oxident properties to bitumen for longer pavement life.   Mode of Action : “WETBOND-WMA” liquid is based on chemically modified fatty materials fortified with rheology modifiers for maintaining the temperature of the mix during transportation to application site and low temperature flow properties of asphalt mixes. The chemical inclusion of certain organic and inorganic molecules activate this product and assist in formation of a stable covalent bond (bridge) between bitumen and surface of aggregates. The flow properties of the asphalt mix are maintained by the special molecules to achieve best compaction even in lower paving and compaction temperatures. WETBOND-WMA has special feature of enhancing bond between bitumen and aggregates of asphalt mix, which ensures complete protection from stripping and water damage. Advantages of WETBOND-WMA : “WETBOND-WMA” liquid is easy to use product for premixing in hot bitumen. This product has several advantages over competitors: Provides fuel saving and reduction in carbon footprints by providing lower hot-mix production and laying temperatures. Procedure for mixing of WETBOND-WMA : "WETBOND-WMA” can be conveniently mixed with hot bitumen by following method: Post addition in hot bitumen stored in bulk bitumen tank. In this method, the required quantity of WETBOND-WMA is slowly added to stored hot bitumen through the open manhole of the tank or using a suitable pump. After addition of complete dose, the bitumen will be circulated for 15 minutes and then it can be used as normal. Direct dosing in Hot Mix Plant by precise dosing device. This method helps in eliminating human contact and ensures better regulatory compliance. However this system must be selected with care to ensure proper dosing and the Hot mix plant manufacturer must be consulted for proper installation.

Amine Type Time Tested Conventional Anti-stripping Agents

The Premature failure of Bituminous Pavements due to action of water is the most common problem and single biggest factor causing early pavement distress. The most important reason contributing to this condition is improper adhesion between bitumen and commonly used aggregates, salt contamination of water/soil and water drainage problems. Majority of aggregate show high stripping value (as high as 70%) and most of them fail miserably in bitumen adhesion properties. These conditions prevail across continents, thus all around the world, anti-stripping agents are recommended and used to extend pavement life. Moisture Damage : ince this is well established that Bituminous Pavements suffer from water damage, this damage can result in rutting, shoving, ravelling, bleeding, cracking and formation of potholes. More importantly this can also lead to loss of chippings from surface dressings (chip-sealing) and freeze-thaw damage in snow-bound area. The reason for this problem on a micro scale is loss of adhesion between the bitumen and the aggregates. There are very few types of aggregate which can resist the action of water, because the water can enter the pavement structure in a number of ways: Wet bitumen-aggregate interface on aggregate not dried properly. Rain water seepage through shoulders, cracks or pores, ground / sub-surface water exhibiting a hydrostatic action (moving inside bituminous layer). Capillary water sucked and expelled out from the top or subgrade. Water vapors formed in the subgrade due to hot weather. The factors contributing to moisture damage of these pavements includes: ​Siliceous type and dusty aggregates. Presence of clay on the aggregate surface. Bitumen with higher acidity profile. Mix designs with less binder and open grading of aggregates. Material with higher voids due to improper compaction. Inadequate drainage. Presence of water vapors between layers. Adhesion of Bitumen : Bitumen is the semisolid material obtained from distillation of crude petroleum oil. It is largely made up of hydrocarbons with low polarity hence it has a very low reactive index and shows little chemical affinity for aggregate, whereas most of the aggregates are ionic so they have high affinity for water. This shows that bitumen can be easily displaced by water, leading to separation of bitumen layer from aggregate. Being the distillate of crude oil, bitumen contains a number of organic substances. Presence of naphthanic acid and other carboxylic acids make the Bitumen slightly acidic, so with siliceous aggregates repulsive forces makes the bonding inefficient. This may lead to the problem of stripping and failure of bituminous pavements. There is only one cause of stripping: water getting between a bitumen film and the aggregate surface, replacing the bitumen as the coating of the aggregate. Practically the adhesion between bitumen and aggregate depends on the source of the bitumen and the chemistry of the aggregate surface. The Aggregates can be of an "acidic" type with surface showing negative charge, or "basic" with surfaces showing positive charge. Acidic aggregates include high silica content rocks, while basic aggregates include carbonate mixes. Bitumens, especially those with high acid value, show a tendency to become negatively charged resulting in adhesion problems (particularly with acidic aggregates). Although water damage is highest in wet climates and high traffic roads show such damage most quickly, but this problem can occur in all climates. Adhesion Promoters : The chemical affinity between bitumen and aggregate can be improved by the addition of very small quantities of chemicals which change the nature of the aggregate or the bitumen to have more affinity for the other. These chemicals are known as "Anti-stripping Agents" "Anti-stripping Additive" or "adhesion promoters". Since the stability of bituminous pavement largely depends on adhesion between bitumen and aggregates, the ionic nature of aggregate is an important factor explaining the problem of stripping that differ for different type of aggregates. This also explains non-formation of stable bond in bituminous pavement construction. (refer IS-6241:1971 "Method of test for determination of stripping value of road aggregates, ASTM D3625 "The Boiling Water Test"). The widely accepted class of Anti-stripping agents belong to Fatty Polyamine group of chemicals where even in a very small dose they provide: Active and passive adhesion between Bitumen and the aggregates, Being surface active agents they provide bituminous wetting action (in some cases, reduced requirement of Bitumen), and prolongs the pavement life by slowing the ageing process. Pavement Stability : Although the use of Anti-stripping Agents can not eliminate the pavement damage problems caused by poor pavement design, bad construction techniques or poor materials, but mostly helps to minimize their effect. The twin aspects of pavement stability are: Bituminous wetting: whether Bitumen properly coats the aggregate surface or not? Resistance to stripping: whether Bitumen sticks to the aggregate for lifetime of the road or not? Poor wetting can be avoided by the modification of the bitumen properties or by the modification of the aggregate surface. The aggregates can be pre-coated with kerosene or water solution of Anti-stripping Agent to make the surface more receptive to the bitumen. But more practical approach is to modify the binder properties by the adding Anti-stripping Agent additives also known as "adhesion promoters", "wetting agents" or "Anti-stripping Compounds" DERBO & WETBOND Range : The problem of stripping can be effectively minimized using "DERBO" and "WETBOND" range of anti-stripping agents. Since they are made from Polymeric amines, the amine group of "DERBO" and "WETBOND" anti-stripping agents reacts with acidic aggregates and makes the aggregate surface hydrophobic (repulsive to water). Further lipophilic (oil loving) Fatty chain remains well suspended in bitumen to form a bridge between bitumen and aggregates. This prevents stripping even in presence of water. Amine based "DERBO" and "WETBOND" Anti-stripping agents also act by changing the interfacial tension between Bitumen and aggregates and strengthening the bonding for long term durability. In construction of bituminous pavements, the aggregates are used in two ways e.g. in coated form (Hot Mix etc.) and uncoated form (spraying work etc.). When used in proper dose, "DERBO" and "WETBOND" are equally effective in both the applications. In coated form they prevents stripping even when coated aggregates are submerged in water and in uncoated form they provides active adhesion of bitumen even with wet aggregates. Dose of DERBO and WETBOND : Dosing of DERBO and WETBOND can be done at different stages of mixing and application. An automatic dosing system can be installed in hot mix plant, however an easier way is to add pre-determined quantity in bitumen storage tank before unloading the bitumen from bulk tanker. Alternatively it can be mixed in stored bitumen by gentle stirring for 15 minutes by a mechanical or manual process. The required dose of each grade will be different depending on type of bitumen used, type of aggregates and type of surfacing. (The dose can be estimated by some simple tests covered under testing page) Tests and Methods : Our products are tested from: Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi. IIT - Roorkee. Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun CEG Test Lab & Research Center, Jaipur Delhi Test House, Delhi Shriram Institute of Industrial Research, Delhi U.P.P.W.D. Research Institute, Lucknow. and many more. Common tests for on-site evaluation of the efficacy of Anti-stripping Agents are: Coating Retention Test : A test similar to stripping test where the blends of different doses of Anti-stripping Agents (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0%) in hot Bitumen are prepared and 10 gms of each blend is mixed with 200 gm hot aggregates and placed in a beaker to cool. Each beaker is then filled with distilled water to submerge the aggregates and placed in water bath maintained at 40°C for 24 hrs. After 24 hrs, each beaker is visually inspected to determine the percentage of Anti-stripping Agent sufficient to retain more than 95% coating. Under Water Coating Test : Different blends of Anti-stripping Agents (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0%) are made in bitumen cutback MC-30. In a 1-litre capacity tin container, 200 gm aggregate are taken and 750 ml of warm distilled water (at 40°C) is poured inside. On top of water, 10 gm of bitumen-antistripping blend is poured. The container is then capped and shaken vigorously for 2 minutes. Then water is drained out and aggregates are transferred on white paper. Percentage of area of aggregates coated with bitumen inside water is then visually estimated. Boiling Test : Blends of different doses of Anti-stripping Agents (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0%) in Bitumen are prepared and each mixed in 10 gm quantity with 200gm aggregates and put in a beaker to cool. Each beaker is then filled with distilled water to submerge the aggregates and boiled vigorously for 10 min. After 10 min water is drained and the aggregates are transferred to white paper where retained coating is visually estimated. Retained Marshall Stability : Test specimens are prepared with 5% Bitumen/ Bitumen-Antistripping Agent blends. One group is placed in water at 60°C for 40 min and tested for Marshall Stability. The other identical group is immersed in water at 60°C for 24 hrs. and then tested for Marshall Stability. The Retained strength is then calculated by determining the percentage of Retained Marshall Stability. Applications : Surface Dressing (Chip-Sealing) : Surface dressing (chip sealing) involves spreading uncoated chippings over a sprayed layer of Bitumen followed by rolling. The applied Bitumen layer cools rapidly leading to wetting problems which become worse by wet and dusty aggregates. In this case an active adhesion is required and typically 0.5-1.0 % DERBO is added to the bitumen. Alternatively the chippings can be pre-coated with a mix of diluted binder and DERBO or a diluted water solution of DERBO can be sprayed on chippings before spreading. Field studies have demonstrated that the use of Anti-stripping Agents in surface dressing provides resistance to early rain. Hot-Mix Surfacing : Hot Mix surfacing is the most efficient and preferred road construction technology. This however requires stringent control of performance features like stripping which most of the times shortens the pavement features and life. This problem can be minimized by using small doses of DERBO that also results in Bitumen saving and good saving in maintenance. Maintenance : When repair works like pot-hole filling, crack sealing, rutting etc are carried out in rainy season or where possibility of moisture damage is high, a little addition of Anti-stripping Agent ensure stable repairs. Hot Recycling : When a pavement is subjected to hot-recycling, if partly coated surfaces are observed in the reclaimed mix, to provide easy wetting, better water resistance and better compaction, Anti-stripping Agent should be used. Emulsions : Cationic bitumen emulsions provide good adhesion in road applications but sometimes an additional water resistance is required. Anti-stripping Agent can be added to the binder before emulsification. Anionic emulsions generally provide poor adhesion to siliceous (acidic) aggregates. Adhesion of anionic emulsions can also be improved by adding Anti-stripping Agent to the binder before emulsification, or to the finished emulsion. Precoated Chippings : When chippings are lightly coated with bitumen, kerosene or diesel to ensure adhesion in surface dressing or when rolled into hot rolled bituminous surfaces to improve skid resistance, Anti-stripping Agent can be added to the coating material to ensure good adhesion. Prime Coats : Where cutbacks are used for priming and dust control during construction, since road base retains moisture and remains cold, Anti-stripping Agent should be added to the prime coat to ensure active adhesion and protection from moisture.

COOLTAR-CE Cationic Bitumen Emulsion

Cationic Bitumen Emulsions (Cold-mix and Road Emulsions) An emulsion is a dispersion of small droplets of two immiscible liquids. Oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions are formed when water remains in continuous phase and oil is dispersed in it. The emulsion thus formed remains unstable until a third component (emulsifier) is added, which prevents the separation of these two liquids. Some other additives like special chemicals are further added to enhance the performance. Bitumen Emulsions are the homogenous dispersion of Bitumen in water (defined as oil-in-water emulsion) produced by mixing of these two ingredients using attrition force and stabilized using emulsifier-chemical blends in a highly specialized and controlled process. Due to presence of Positive charge on the surface of dispersed Bitumen, they are referred as Cationic Bitumen Emulsion. Bitumen Emulsions which normally contain from 50 to 67% of residual bitumen are free flowing brown liquids at room temperature. Merits over Conventional Bitumen : Bitumen emulsions provide effective alternate to normal paving Bitumen which is most commonly used as a binder in road construction, and requires heating to mix well with aggregate. The hot-mixed materials achieve good strength only when kept hot during storage, transport & laying and then allowed to cool. Use of cold and wet aggregates results in improper strength & stability problems. In Bitumen Emulsions, since the bitumen is liquefied by dispersing in water so these emulsions can be used with cold and wet aggregates, the final strength of the mix material develops as the emulsion sets (reverts to a continuous bitumen phase by removal of water). Low viscosity of Bitumen Emulsions help them spread evenly at normal room temperature and provides uniform stable film of Bitumen on the site of application. In road construction applications, bitumen emulsions provide a safer and environmentally-friendlier system as compared to hot bitumen since the risks of fire, burns, pollution and emissions are avoided and the process is energy efficient. “COOLTAR-CE” is the Cationic Bitumen Emulsion produced by PETROCHEM SPECIALITIES through indigenously developed and more reliable batch process and confirms to Indian & International Standards. Bitumen Emulsions have a lot of variation in their viscosities depending on the type of bitumen used, type of emulsifier, dose of acid, particle size distribution etc. Most of the time an external viscosity improving agent is required to meet specifications and coating properties. Solid thickeners are the powders obtained from complex natural products modified by chemical cleavage and re-formation to provide stability in low pH medium. "BeGel" is a modified polygalactomanan type low dose product which is compatible with most grades of Bitumen Emulsion and emulsifiers. This product is added into hot water before the formation of Bitumen Emulsion to obtain high viscosity. Rejuvenator Liquid for Reclaimed Asphalt (RAP) “Wetbond-REX” is a performance grade liquid rejuvenating additive for RAP-based hot mix pavements. This is a versatile product that combines properties of Rejuvenation of old oxidized asphalt (present in RAP), Anti-stripping (Water damage protection) and Warm mix asphalt (better compaction on below normal compaction temperatures). Due to continuous exposure to environmental factors like UV radiation from sunlight, frictional heat generated from moving traffic tyres, freeze-thaw, regular change in day and night road temperatures, deposition of clay, sand and other mineral substances on road surface and natural aging process of Bitumen, the bitumen used in the construction of asphalt pavements becomes oxidized and brittle over a period of time. This results in loss of flexibility of asphalt layers, formation of cracks, potholes and finally complete failure. An important factor contributing to brittleness is loss of maltene part of bitumen which chiefly consists of resins, oils, oleifins, naphthenes, and natural polymers. During recycling of asphaltic pavements, a substantial quantity of Reclaimed asphalt (RAP) is produced which is generally wasted in the form of landfills. However by using a liquid rejuvenating additive capable of replenishing the lost maltene part and by adding a little quantity of fresh bitumen to this RAP, the same can be reused for fresh paving and provide a lot of savings in terms of materials, time and money. Physical Properties: “WETBOND-REX” liquid is a dark brownish oily liquid at room temperature. This product has a characteristic smell. This product is internal rejuvenating liquid where it can be added in required dose with fresh bitumen to be used in RAP based hot-mix asphalt constructions. (Cationic Emulsifier for Slow Setting Bitumen Emulsions) Description : “PSEM-SS-ABT” is an amphoteric type emulsifier for the production of Slow Setting Cationic Bitumen Emulsions. This product is liquid even at low temperatures so is convenient to use in both batch type and continuous type bitumen emulsion production plants. Emulsions made using the recommended dose of this product give storage stable and fine performance products.   Physical Properties : “PSEM-SS-ABT” is a brownish yellow clear liquid at room temperature with a characteristic pungent-acrid odor. This product is soluble in cold and hot water and miscible with polar solvents. Its water solution give neutral to slightly acidic pH. In recommended doses, it provides cationic bitumen emulsion passing cement mixing test for effective priming and premixing properties. Addition of a compatible peptizer greatly improve emulsion properties and cohesion buildup in slurry applications. This emulsifier provides a vide choice for production of different grades of slow setting bitumen emulsions including prime coat emulsion, slurry surfacing, fog seal, soil stabilization, cold in place recycling and microsurfacing etc. For activation of this emulsifier concentrated hydrochloric acid is recommended as economical and better choice. The final pH of water solution before making emulsion must be checked and adjusted between 2 to 3.  At this pH, “PSEM-SS-ABT” has highest micellization in soap solution favoring better stable emulsion. Any suitable peptizer can be optionally mixed with bitumen before making emulsion for easy milling and lower particle size distribution favoring better storage stability.

(Anionic Emulsifier for Rapid / Medium Setting Bitumen Emulsions) Description : “PSEM-FFA” is a chemically modified resinous natural polymer for the production of Anionic Bitumen Emulsions of Rapid / Medium Setting grades. This product is thick viscous liquid which "melts" upon heating, so is better used in process in slightly warm stage. Emulsions made using the recommended dose of this product pass standard tests and perform well in structural applications. Physical Properties : “PSEM-FFA” is thick dark brown color viscous liquid at room temperature with acrid resinous odor. This product is non-miscible with hot or cold water and needs sodium / potassium hydroxide-based pH increase to dissolve in hot water. In recommended doses, it does not have any effect on physical properties of bitumen used for production of emulsions. This emulsifier can be well used with VG-10 grade of bitumen and provides a vide choice for production of different grades of bitumen emulsions for structural applications. Use of a compatible poly-amine type anti-stripping agent in bitumen prior to making anionic bitumen emulsion, greatly improves emulsion properties and storage stability.
