Ozone Analyser

Upon entering the instrument, the sample is diverted by the gas valve into the catalytic converter which selectively changes any ozone present to oxygen. This sample, with no ozone, then passes though the absorption chamber where the detector measures the amount of ultraviolet light transmitted through it. Upon completion of this cycle, the valve is activated and the sample containing ozone is passed through the absorption chamber. The absorption by ozone of the ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 254nm is measured at the sample detector, and displayed in parts-per-million (ppm) ozone.

Solar Box

the sun you have always wanted: sunshine day and night for accelerated light stability and weathering tests.

radiant energy in the solarbox is provided by a single superior air-cooled xenon lamp generating an irradiance level up to two times the sun one. Irradiance is the rate at which light energy falls onto the samples. A weathering tester must control irradiance if it is to achieve accurate and reproducible test results. Solarbox offers constant measurement and control of irradiance during every test, compensating for lamp and uv filter ageing via a closed loop irradiance narrow-band sensor control system. Irradiation uniformity is guaranteed by a parabolic reflector chamber with the xenon lamp in the focus, the best design for a reliable flat-bed xenon exposure system and very good agreement with rotating drum xenon exposures.

temperature control
temperature is another component of the end use environment which plays a key role in material degradation. Heat in the natural environment comes from the infrared portion of natural sunlight. An object exposed to direct sunlight is always warmer than the air surrounding it. Your product is exposed in the same manner in our solarbox tester.

the radiant heat received from the xenon lamp is continuously monitored and controlled by a b.s.t. (black standard thermometer) built in the plane of test panels near your samples. In solarbox 1500e and 3000e there is the control and display of the black standard temperature between 35c and 100c. The importance of temperature in the weathering degradation process is that the kinetic
reaction rate doubles for every 10c temperature increase. Consequently, because the temperature produces an accelerated ageing, it is essential to be able to control of b.s.t. During exposure to filtered xenon radiation.

simulating the effect of rain and moisture

a flooding system for conducting weathering tests with freely selectable flooding interval is an available option for solarbox 1500e and 3000e:
water level indicator
continuous flooding possible
flooding intervals selectable between 1 and 999 minutes throughout the test program
water temperature of 30c to 50c.

during flooding, the xenon lamp can be programmed on or off. The flooding system operates with demineralised water from a closed recycling circuit so to minimize the need of demineralised water but offering the same test results of a high consumption spray system. Pvc and corrosion-resistant materials ensure long life of this tank pump system: capacity up to 50 litres.

xenon lamp and uv filters combination optimize sunlight simulation

the solarbox1500-1500eand solarbox3000-3000eare 4 ultimate filtered xenon light exposure and weathering instruments which simulate realistic natural outdoor weathering conditions.

the large dimensions of solarbox 3000 and 3000e test chamber can accommodate 3 dimensional objects and finished industry products.

accelerating the process requires the accurate reproduction of the suns rays.the air cooled xenon lamp in the solarbox replicates the total spectrum of the sun and not just the short wavelength uv, as we have using uva or uvb fluorescent lamps.

easily interchangeable light filters allow the reproduction of the specific spectral distributions found in your products end-use environments.

PENDULUM IMPACT TESTER MACHINE

The Ray-Ran Advanced Universal Pendulum Impact Tester utilises advanced microprocessor technology to determine the energy required to break or rupture specimens such as plastics, composites, ceramics and non ferrous metals to International testing methods for Izod, Charpy and Tension Impact Testing. Along with Pipe Testing, Component Testing and Puncture Impact testing the Ray-Ran Universal Pendulum Impact Tester should more than meet all of your testing requirements.

Built with operator simplicity in mind, its ease of operation and high accuracy makes it ideal for product development and quality control within production, research and development labs and teaching institutions. The apparatus is extremely versatile. Impact velocities are variable from 1.5 m/s up to 3.8 m/s and combined with highly accurate variable weight hammers which are electronically released by a solenoid, impact energy ranges up to 50 Joules can be reached.

To calculate the Impact Energy the apparatus uses advanced and highly accurate rotary encoder technology to record the lost angle of the hammer after impacting a test sample against the angle recorded after calibrating the hammer. The resulting lost angle is calculated as the test samples Impact Energy by the advanced microprocessor system.

The large on board liquid crystal display (LCD) provides simple on screen instruction and using the alpha/numeric membrane keypad test parameters such as user names, material reference numbers and batch numbers are entered and stored in operator lists for future recall and results presentation. Selecting the type of test is done at the press of a button and the testing parameters such as impact hammer weight, impact velocity and sample size are entered to give the required testing conditions.

At start of each batch of tests a simple calibration of the apparatus is conducted for bearing resistance and windage and after each test sample has been tested the results are displayed on the LCD giving the Impact energy in KJ/M and KJ/M. Batch statistics of mean, standard deviation and co-efficient of variation are automatically updated after each test and results are shown in graphical and tabular format for analysis when downloaded to the supplied Techni-Test PC software. For quality control purposes High and Low limits can be defined when test results are downloaded showing the user instantly if the material is a pass or fail.

The following tests can be conducted

Izod Test
For the Izod test, the specimen is supported and impacted in a cantilevered position with one end of the specimen clamped into the vice. A single swing of the impact hammer is required to break the specimen and the subsequent impact strength calculated. Notched or Un-notched specimens can be tested using the Izod method. Complies to International Test Standards ASTM D256, ASTM D4812 and ISO 180. Impact hammer energies are available from 0.5 J up to 25 J

Charpy Test
The Charpy test requires a standard notched or un-notched test specimen to be supported as a horizontal beam and is impacted on either its narrow face or the width of its cross-section. A single swing of the impact hammer is required to break the specimen and the subsequent impact strength calculated. Complies to International Test Standards ISO 179, ASTM D256, ASTM D6110, DIN 53453, DIN 53753, and BS 7413. Impact hammer energies are available from 0.5 J up to 50 J

Tension Impact
Tensile impact tests are conducted on material samples that are either too thin or exhibit a high elongation before fracture. The test sample, usually in the shape of a tensile bar, is positioned in a horizontal plane with one end supported to the base of the apparatus and the other end supported by a movable clamp. When the pendulum is released it strikes the movable clamp and breaks the test piece along its horizontal axis, thus applying a pure tensile load to the test sample. Complies to International Test Standard ISO 8256 Method A. Impact hammer energies are available from 0.5 J up to 50 J.

Pipe Testing
The test is used for the examination of pipe sections and tubing for impact strength properties as either complete segments or small sections of pipes. Sample diameter dimensions up to 25 mm can be tested with hammer energies of 7.5 - 15 J. The test specimen is supported as a horizontal beam similar to Charpy tests conditions and complies to International Test Standards ISO 7628 and ISO 9854. Sample diameter dimensions up to 25 mm (0.98 in) can be tested with hammer energies of 7.5 - 15 J (5.6 - 11.1 ft-lbs) or 50 J (36.9 ft-lbs), as defined in the ISO standards.

Component test
The component test examines the influences of both the design and the manufacturing processes of a particular component by measuring the impact energy in Joules, required to break a complete or part of a section of a finished component. If a particular component has a critical cross sectional area that needs to be tested then by entering this area into the microprocessor the energy in KJ/M can be obtained.

The apparatus is supplied as standard with Ray-Rans Techni-Test Windows based PC software for connection to the apparatus via an RS232 or Ethernet connection. Test results can be printed directly from the Techni-Test software or can be saved and exported as .CSV files which can be opened with Microsoft Excel in tabular form which can be manipulated to your specific requirements such as preparing a graphical presentation or copying the results to a Word document for a report presentation if required. For quality control purposes High and Low limits can be defined when test results are downloaded showing the user instantly if the material is a pass or fail. If the apparatus is connected to the PC via the Ethernet connector over a LAN network then the RS232 can be used for connection to an optional thermal printer for direct printout by the operator.

AUTO DENSITY GRADIENT COLUMN

The Auto Density Gradient Apparatus from Ray-Ran has become the worlds benchmark for accurate density measurement of small solid specimens using the column method. Offered as a 3 or 6 column version, the built in on-board Microprocessor System accurately calculates the specimens density more quickly and more accurately by using the latest linear encoder technology that measures the samples position in the column relative to the calibrated glass marker floats. Once the correct position of the sample is recorded the density is displayed on the LCD screen.

To ensure results accuracy the Density Gradient Apparatus is supplied with digital temperature control to ensure the temperature of each column is at 23C +/- 0.1C. For ambient temperatures in excess of 23C the integrated cooling coil can be used in conjunction with an optional water chiller unit so the correct temperature can be maintained.

To build each glass column with a fluid of a known density range a variable speed peristaltic pumped filling system is supplied with the apparatus. Column filling speeds are variable from 0.5ltrs/hr to 1.5ltrs/hr to keep the gradient accurate. The density range of the column is formed by mixing two fluids having different densities in the supplied glass flasks. The resulting solution has a density which when introduced into the column increases uniformly from top to bottom. Calibrated glass marker floats of precise known densities are introduced into the column and sink to a point where the density matches that of the solution.

A linear encoder which is attached to a trammel guide is used to calibrate the gradient of the column by focusing the optical microscope onto the centre of the calibrated float and entering the floats density value into the microprocessor. Once test samples have been introduced into the column and have reached a point of static equilibrium they are accurately sighted using the microscope. The resultant density of the sample is obtained and displayed on the LCD without the need for complicated graphs. Test results can be downloaded via the RS232 serial interface connector to an optional thermal printer.

To remove the samples and glass marker floats simply turn on the automatic sweep mechanism and wait for the items to be extracted from each column. Particles and floats are removed at a slow speed so the gradient of each column is not damaged by the sweep basket. To replace the floats and new samples into the column simply reverse the sweep motor and lower them into the column.

The Gradient of the column can be calibrated & checked at any time as the calibration procedure stores the values in the microprocessor ensuring that density values of your samples remain accurate to the column. If the density gradient of the column changes at any time the column can be quickly re-calibrated saving time or the necessity to create a new gradient for the column. Depending on use or age the density distribution of the column can remain stable for up to 40 weeks.

Theory of Operation

The Model 700-10LTAis simple to operate and versatile over a wide range of temperatures, airflows and ozone concentrations. Users confirm its ozone concentration stability and dependable operation. The entire system is diagrammed below.

Generation
The ozone source is a mercury vapor quartz ultra-violet lamp. It is housed in a protective metal container outside the test compartment as required by ASTM and is easily accessible through the lower side door.

Air Recirculation
Plenum chambers located on each side of the all stainless steel test compartment direct the ozonized air through it. A wheel type blower in the left plenum chamber provides two-feet/second air recirculation velocity over the test samples. The blower wheel is shaft-mounted with the drive motor mounted outside the test compartment, as required for the ASTM tests.

Air Flow System
Fresh air is drawn into the system with a rotary vane type Gast "oil-less" air compressor. Felt filters on both the intake and exhaust sides of the compressor remove particulate contamination. The rate of airflow is observed on a flowrator and set with the "air flow control, " a valve in the compressor by-pass line. Air leaving the flowrator then passes in small part thru the computer controlled regulator over the ultra violet lamp and in large part through a lamp bypass line. The ozonized air from the lamp is remixed with the bypassed air and enters the test compartment circulation system. A freshly ozonized airflow replenishes the air in the test compartment approximately once a minute at the recommended flow rate of six cubic feet per minute. Only fresh air is passed over the ozone source as recommended by ASTM. Air in the test compartment is exhausted outside and is not recirculated over the ozone source.

Tempertaure Control

Grit Feeder

The Grit Feeder is a freestanding instrument that requires a Taber Rotary Platform Abraser (not included) to conduct testing. The grit distributor nozzle is positioned over the Taber Abraser specimen in front of the right abrasive wheel. During the test, abrasive grit particles are deposited uniformly and continuously onto the specimen surface. As the specimen holder rotates, the loose grit particles pass under a pair of S-39 Leather-Clad Wheels. The resulting rolling action of the particles serves as the abradant and contributes to the physical breakdown of the material. The vacuum hose from the Taber Abraser is inserted into the base of the Grit Feeder allowing a pickup tube to be positioned such that grit particles and debris are removed. The operation of the grit feeder is controlled through the Taber Abraser, ensuring that the turntable, grit distribution and vacuum suction are actuated at the same time.

IMPORTANT: Due to the type & quantity of abrasive media that is used during this testing, Taber recommends that you frequently inspect the vacuum filter and collection bag and replace when necessary.

Abradants

The standardized abradant supplied with Taber's Grit Feeder is a #240 aluminum oxide grit particle (Model S-41). Produced specifically for Taber Industries, this aluminum oxide has tighter controls for both particle size analysis and bulk density properties compared to "off-the shelf" aluminum oxide. To calibrate the rate of flow and to measure the abrasive rate of the abradant, S-38 Standardization Plates are utilized.

Prior to use, the abrasive grit should be screened through U.S. Standard Sieve No. 80 to break up any conglomerates and to remove any oversized or foreign particulate matter. Afterwards, dry the grit for 1 hour at approximately 82 C (180 F). Allow to cool in a temperature and humidity controlled room prior to use.

To satisfy test method EN 14354 and ISO 24338 Method B, Alodur ESK 240 aluminum oxide grit should be used. Contact Taber Industries for additional information.

Rebound Hammer

Concrete rebound Schmidt hammer (sclerometer) is a device for strength testing of concrete and other building materials. The most common in the world instrument for measuring the strength of concrete is the Schmidt Hammer. The device is called by the name of the engineer Ernst Schmidt, who invented the construction of the sclerometer.
The method of strength testing of concrete with using the Schmidt hammer is based on the impacting the striker on the concrete surface with predetermined (normed) impacting energy and after measuring the height of the striker rebounding. The height of the striker rebounding will be proportional to the strength of concrete. The strength of concrete is determined by the calibration charts which is supplied with the instrument.

Concrete Rebound Schmidt Hammer NOVOTEST SH is very ease in operation, has good reliability of design and high measurement accuracy, so that this method is the most common method of measuring the strength of concrete in the world. The strength testing with the Schmidt hammer is correspond with ASTM C 805; ASTM D 5873 (for rock); DIN 1048, p. 2; ENV 206; EN 12 504-2; ISO / DIS 8045.

There are several versions of the measuring methods, which are different in impacting energy.

  • The most powerful Schmidt hammer is designed to measure the strength of concrete with a thickness of 70-100mm and more, also for the strength testing of massive rocks with impact energy 2, 207J (Nm). This is the base and the most common model of Schmidt hammer, about 90% of the Schmidt hammers in the world have the same impact energy.

  • Average powerful Schmidt hammer has the 735J (735 Nm) impacting energy. The impact energy is reduced threefold in compared with the base model. The main application of this instrument is measuring the strength of bricks and concrete products with a wall thickness less than 100 mm and small sizes of sample, also it used for testing the less strength stones and rocks.

  • The least powerful Schmidt hammer has 196J (196Nm) impact energy. The main purpose is the strength testing the mortar of brick masonry.

Depending on requerments tasks user always need to select the correct model of Schmidt hammer. All models, independently of impact energy, are devices for non-destructive testing, so that they are not destroying the object of testing.

To verify the accuracy of Schmidt hammer, is used a special calibrated anvil. Correctly functioning instrument have to display the certain value when it testing the standard anvil.

Advantages

  • Concrete Rebound Schmidt Hammer NOVOTEST SH has 3 modifications with different impacting energy, so that user can test all kinds of concrete and other building materials.

TM Hybrid Bioreactor

Over the years, there has been an emerging trend in the demand for biopharmaceuticals in the treatment of diseases. Biopharmaceuticals can be produced with microorganisms, adherent cells or suspended cells. While the recent advances in the technology have paved the way for a more efficient and effective culture of adherent and suspended cells, most bioreactors are only capable of supporting the growth of either adherent cells or suspension cells.

The VacciXcell Hybrid Reactor is a laboratory scale bioreactor system that supports both the growth of suspension and adherent cells. It is capable of processing adherent cell culture using macrocarriers or microcarriers, suspension culture and fermentation. It applies the tide motion principle for adherent culture and stir principle for suspension culture.

The VacciXcell Hybrid Reactor is ideal for biopharmaceutical companies who are in the initial stages of research and development and are looking to determine the effectiveness, productivity and feasibility of the mammalian cells, whether as suspended or adherent cells.

Principle

Adherent Vs. Suspension
The interchangeability feature of the matrix vessel and impeller within the reactor vessel allows the reactor to switch its mode from adherent culture to suspension culture.

For suspension culture, the suspended cells in the culture medium are stirred using an impeller. On the other hand, adherent cells are cultured by attaching to carriers, BIO NocII, which are contained in the matrix vessel. The adherent cells are then alternately exposed to aeration and nutrition as the culture medium moves in and out of the matrix vessel via air pressure. The matrix vessel is cylindrical in shape and perforated halfway. The perforated half is used for medium submersion, while the non-perforated half is used during seeding. The nutrient medium remains at the bottom of the reactor vessel and is kept homogeneous by a built-in magnetic stirrer. Aeration occurs through headspace overlay and through the dissolved oxygen in the nutrient medium.

Viscometers

The Benz Mooney Viscometer (MV 2100) measures and records the viscosity of natural and synthetic rubber and plastic elastomers, including rubber in the raw or compounded state. It is also used to determine the curing characteristics of compounded rubber.

More than a simple viscometer, the Benz MV 2100 is a computer data acquisition system, with digital P.I.D. temperature controls, realtime display of torque vs. time, data storage for statistical evaluation, and data manipulation.

General Description

It runs on Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, ME and XP.

The MV 2100 accepts a sample of the elastomer, usually 11 grams, in a melt chamber and heats it to 212 F (100 C). Pre-heating is timed to maintain consistency of initial viscosity readings. The viscometer's serrated shearing disk, rotating at 2 rpm and developing torque on the sample up to 200 inch pounds (200dN M), causing the sample to flow. The necessary amount of torque is measured and is read on an x-y graph on the personal computer monitor.

Measurements are recorded on the PC, using Benz' proprietary Benzwin 2000 software, which is included with the MV 2100.

When the sample's viscosity falls to a level reading, the engineer or quality control operator knows both the torque and the time required to reach that minimum viscosity. Among other things, the level indicates if the compound has been properly mixed, with ingredients in their proper proportions.

The Benz MV 2100 also performs scorch tests in which, at 320 F (160 C), the liquid sample cures. The MV 2100 measures and records the amount of time a sample will last in a mold before it is scorched and its elastomeric properties are lost.

The Benz MV 2100 is also used to record stress relaxation, measuring the amount of stress energy (resilience) remains in a sample after the spinning rotor is stopped. Plasticity is graphed and recorded in inch pounds (dNM).

The Benz MV 2100 meets ASTM D164 and other national and international standards.

Like several other Benz elastomeric testing instruments such as the Benz Brittle Point Tester and the Benz Melt Flow Tester, The Benz Mooney Viscometer is commonly used by companies manufacturing or testing chemical compounds, technical service centers, original equipment manufacturers and others concerned with product consistency, safety and durability.

Constructed of aluminum and high strength steel, it requires 20 x 22 inches (50 x 55 cm) of counter space and runs on 110 V or 220 V. An 80 psi (4 bar) air pressure system holds the sample chamber closed during the tests.

Scanning Densitometer

here's only one way to manage color effectively, meet customer expectations, and maximize job profitability! That is: Objective Color Measurement. In other words, densitometry. Essentially this is a matter of reading a colorbar for solid ink, dot gain, or other density-derived characteristics. However, the limited trim areas of a short cutoff press require use of narrow 1/16" (1.6mm) bars for color control. No other device on the market can do this.

Overview of Basic Operation
Setting up a press is logical and uncomplicated. After keying in job parameters (type of press/sheet size/colorbar structure), position the colorbar between two horizontal scribelines and against the side guide. The vacuum hold-down secures sheet placement and the SDT does the rest.

A typical scan takes only 10 seconds. As the SDT scanning head travels across the press sheet, it strokes the colorbar VERTICALLY to determine bar position and skew. On the scanning head's return trip, having detected the skew of the colorbar, the head scans right down the middle of the bar for accurate densitometric readings.

SDT Scanner
The SDT has an accurately flat, rugged platen with vacuum hold-down. The design supports the bridge and measuring probe head. Unique pass-through feature allows the entire press sheet to slide freely under the bridge, enabling scans of centrally located colorbars and bars at the bottom of the sheet.

SDT Intelligent Analysis
Sampling a few sheets during the run provides an immediate comparison of performance to specifications. And by charting long-term trends, the SDT becomes an essential quality assurance tool.

Statistical analysis of the entire job file is performed by SCP software that comes with the system. Color-coded graphical displays show X-bar and range data for each scan. A frequency histogram generated from readings charts the distribution.

Flexible Modular Design
The SDT Scanning Densitometer system includes all the components needed for effective color management. Its modular design allows for the convenient placement of the components according to the layout of your pressroom.

Optional Closed-Loop for Automatic Press Key Controls
The CLM Closed-Loop Module, in conjunction with the Tobias Scanning Densitometer, allows for off-line closed-loop control of most automated press consoles. Click here for more information.

TABER Linear Abrase

The Taber Linear Abraser incorporates a horizontal arm that reciprocates in a linear motion. Attached to the end of the arm is a precision bearing spline shaft that creates a 'free-floating' test system and permits vertical movement. The test attachments are affixed to the bottom of the spline shaft and a weight support is mounted to the top. As the horizontal arm strokes back and forth, the test system raises or lowers vertically as the test attachment follows the contours of the specimen. A laser alignment guide assists with specimen set-up to ensures the abradant travels over the desired area.

Adjustable settings enable the user to select the speed, stroke length and test load. The Linear Abraser includes six preset speed buttons, along with the ability to adjust the speed from 2 to 75 strokes per minute. Eleven stroke lengths are standard ranging from 0.2 inch to 4.0 inch. The base load of the "free-floating" test system is 350 grams and consists of the test attachment; spline shaft; and weight support. Three 250g weight discs are supplied with the instrument and optional weight discs ranging from 10 to 250 grams can be added to the weight support to increase the test load to approximately 2100 grams. Optional accessories can be also be used to decrease the load. For example, an 150mm aluminum spline shaft and plastic Wearaser Collet Kit can bring the minimum load on the sample to as low as 60 grams. Taber's Linear Abraser is programmable to 999, 999 cycles, but caution must be used as the abradant may wear prior to the end of the test.

The Wearaser collet assembly is supplied with each Taber Linear Abraser, along with CS-10 and H-18 Wearaser abradants. The size and shape of a pencil eraser, the Wearaser is made using the same high quality Taber abrasive media found in our Genuine Taber abrading wheels.
