Contact SupplierThe John Crane Type 502 is a unitized elastomer bellows mechanical seal designed to perform under demanding conditions in confined gland spaces. Its compact, full‑convolution bellows construction allows for efficient installation in restricted-length shafts, while the integrated, one-piece design simplifies assembly and minimizes leakage pathways
At the core of the Type 502 is a full‑collapsible rubber bellows that provides flexibility, vibration tolerance, and automatic self-alignment—compensating for shaft run‑out and end play without additional hardware.
A single-coil, non-clogging spring ensures consistent face loading, offering more reliability than multi-spring designs especially in solids-laden fluids, as only one spring remains exposed to contamination.
Face and seat materials vary based on application: common pairings include carbon graphite, silicon carbide, and tungsten carbide, supported by secondary seals in NBR, EPDM, or FKM (Viton).
Metallic components are built from stainless steels (304/316), and specialty alloys like Hastelloy or Monel are available upon request .
