Recycled cashmere, unraveled from discarded sweaters. Technically a cabled yarn, three 2-ply strands are twisted together to form a stable but soft and luxurious yarn. The yarn is scoured to remove residual dirt and dye from the original manufacturing process. The last step is to over-dye or paint the yarn. A 100 gram skein has about 450 to 500 yards, and is a fingering weight yarn (18 wpi).
Churchmouse recommends a needle size of 3, with a gauge of 7 stitches per inch, resulting in a soft fabric that almost looks felted. but there is great variation in how you can use this yarn. I’ve even used a Size 9 needle on a knit ribbed piece with success.
You can get some ideas of projects on-line on Ravelry, either by looking up Raveling Rose via the Yarn tab, or by doing an advanced search for fingering, sport or DK weight yarn with the yardage you have. If you are unfamiliar with Ravelry, feel free to contact me, and I’ll introduce you.
