Pigment dye molecules are relatively large and easily filtered at water treatment plants and are therefore considered to be eco friendly. They are also processed at generally lower temperatures than reactive dyes.

The primary use for indigo is as a dye for cotton yarn, which is mainly for the production of denim cloth for blue jeans. On average, a pair of blue jean trousers requires 3–12 g of indigo. Small amounts are used for dyeing wool and silk.

Discharge screen printing can be used to print colors on dark garments that in the past would have required an additional layer of white ink in order to achieve proper opacity of top colors.

These dyes are having very good reactivity fastness properties. These dyes require milder alkaline conditions for applications & fixation at the optimum temperature of 25-35 deg c.

It is generally applied on cotton. This can not applied on silk or wool. Because, this dye decrease the flexibility and luster of slik and wool. Mineral colour produces by chemical reaction of metal salt.
