TMT rebars in concrete start corroding causing spalling and cracking, and weakening the whole structure. Chloride from various sources penetrates to the rebar and the electrochemical process of corrosion starts. The rust expands up to four times its original volume and creates an internal pressure (about 4000 PSI), which severely damages the concrete. Rass-O’-Nil® Kover is a one-step polymerised metallic phosphate nano-deposit (less than five microns) with conductive metal ions to give sacrificial protection (cathodic) against corrosion to structural steel during storage, transhipment and inside concrete mortar. Rass-O’-Nil Kover is applied in a one tank flash-dipping with turbulence or brush or spray coating on cooling bed at 60 degrees temperature. Complex sacrificial protection through conductive mix metal oxide (ion) deposit to the rebar or structural steel’s micro-structure gives excellent protection from corrosion and improves the bond between concrete and steel. When RASS-O’-NIL enriched conductive metal oxide (ion) is in electrical contact with a metal more noble in the electromotive series such as steel, a galvanic cell is established and electric current will flow when an electrolyte contact develops by metallic couple. RASS-O’-NIL is low cost per linear foot tonnage compared epoxy coated or galvanized reinforcing steel. Rass-O’-Nil Kover Technology was tried at Tata Steel under agreement.

Rass-O’-Nil Steel Pickling and Passivation process replaces strong acid pickling, sand and shot blasting. Rass-O’-Nil saves water and does not produce any waste. Rass-O’-Nil® does not etch the steel surface unlike strong acid pickling and sand or shot blasting, . Rass-O’-Nil Pickling and Passivation eliminates hydrogen embrittlement caused by strong acids like hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. The Rass-O’-Nil treated steel does not require a protective coat of oil to keep it from rusting unlike strong acid pickling or shot blasting. There is no need for solvent degreasing before painting.

Rass-O’-Nil® is the one-step clean steel treatment nano-technology. Rass-O’-Nil treats the steel and deposits an ultra-fine conductive polymerised metallic phosphate deposit. Powder-coating, e-coatings, electroplating, and paint adhere better and stronger to the Rass-O’-Nil treated steel surface. Extra anchor points on the Rass-O’-Nil treated metal surface improve the finish coating’s bonding and adhesion with the Rass-O’-Nil treated steel. Rass-O’-Nil’s conductive deposit enhances the electrostatic bonding for stronger coating adhesion. Rass-O’-Nil® cleans the surface and converts light oil the rust and oxidation and reacts with the steel surface to deposit a conductive polymerised metallic-phosphate deposit on the steel surface. The Rass-O’-Nil pre-treatment technology reduces the process time and running cost considerably, along with quality surface preparation. The finishing has longer-term corrosion protection than before.

Rass-O’-Nil® Galvo is the one-step clean aluminium, coppper and galvanized metal treatment. Rass-O’-Nil Galvo cleans, prepares, protects and brightens amphoteric metals. Rass-O’-Nil Galvo prevents white rust oxide and deposits an ultra-fine conductive metallurgical oxide conversion deposit on the metal surface. Powder-coating, paint and other finish coatings adhere better to the Rass-O’-Nil Galvo treated metal surface. Anchor points on the Rass-O’-Nil treated metal surface improve the finish coating’s bonding and adhesion with the Rass-O’-Nil treated metal surface. Rass-O’-Nil’s deposit on the metal surface acts like a buffer and provides better protection from coating failure because of the difference between the thermal expansion of the metal and the finish coat.

Rass-O’-Nil® is the one-step clean steel treatment and Corrosion Prevention nano-technology. Rass-O’-Nil treats the steel and deposits an ultra-fine conductive polymerised metallic phosphate deposit that protects steel from corrosion. Rass-O’-Nil enhances coating adhesion to the steel, protects the steel from rust in saline, acidic, and alkaline environments, and improves the finish coating or paint’s quality. Rass-O’-Nil ® protects structural and fabricated steel and powder coating, e-coating, electroplating and paint from corrosion on ocean transit and weathering. Exposure to the ocean is the hardest test for steel products.The salty atmosphere corrodes the metal and the finish coating flakes off. Steel surface treatment Quality: The Rass-O’-Nil treated steel surface withstood more than 900 hours of salt spray, passed the 1.5 kg scratch test, and the adhesion test. The saline and corrosive atmosphere around Oil Installations and Thermal Power Plants corrodes the metal and the paint flakes off. Rass-O’-Nil® treatment on the steel surface of oil wells and the plates of tanks helps the topcoat on the metal withstand aggressive weathering. Rass-O’-Nil® increases paint adhesion. The Rass-O’-Nil® treated metal surface improves the metal life cycle during storage and transport of high sulphur content oil. Rass-O’-Nil treated inner surface of pipes helps improve the flow of oil inside the pipeline system. The Haldia Petrochemicals refinery and the Unilever Soap Factory in India have found Rass-O’-Nil to be very useful in their maintenance operations before finish painting. Rass-O’-Nil stringently satisfies ASTM B117 and IS: 13515-1992 (Indian Standard). The Rass-O’-Nil treated metal surface can withstand thermal shock up to 400° C, and random bending up to 180°.

Rass-O’-Nil® Flexo is the one-step clean steel coil treatment nano-technology. Rass-O’-Nil treats the metal and deposits an ultra-fine conductive metallurgical poly-phosphate deposit on the metal. Rass-O’-Nil Flexo is a cold dry coat treatment to apply metallurgical conductive nano-deposit on CRCA steel. Rass-O’-Nil Flexo eliminates rust preventive oil, degreasing, phosphating, chromate washing, zinc phosphate and water rinsing. Rass-O’-Nil Flexo improves the colour coating’s bonding to the steel and adhesion with the treated metal surface and protects the treated metal from corrosion over a long time. Rass-O’-Nil®-Flexo is an organo-metallic ester grafted with metallurgical metal oxide (ions) in binary form and is deposited through nano particle size coating into the steel substrate’s micro-structure. Rass-O’-Nil Flexo deposit on the steel surface was found to be dense, and uniform with a deposit weight of 0.05 to 1.7 gm2. A joint venture of Roy Research and Technology and Tata Steel Ltd. to develop a clean and eco-friendly electrode wire for an alternative copper free electrode (WMAW & MIG welding) : (a) with better welding performance (b) better shelf life and corrosion resistance (c) eliminating health hazards of welder. The invention: A novel method for developing nano-particle deposited highly conductive electrode wire which minimizes the environmental and health hazards during welding operation. The clean electrodes are produced by the newly developed binary composite metallic ion deposition technology or nano-blanketing with metallic ions on the micro-structure of the electrode wire.

Rass-O’-Nil Steel Treatment, PICKlING AND CORROSION PREVENTIOn Technology was tried at Tata Steel under agreement: “For several years — Tata Steel’s R&D and Roy Research and Technology made a joint effort towards the optimization of the chemical’s uses and physical testing for plant implementation for the development of the metal surface preparation and pre-treatment technology through lab and plant trial. This metal surface preparation and pre-treatment technology polymerised with a polymorphous character. For several years — Tata Steel’s R&D invested considerable amounts towards adapting the new technologies and Roy Research and Technology has also invested certain amounts and time in developing these technologies. After thorough testing at the lab and plant level, these new technologies were well which accepted by Tata Steel and Roy Research and Technology. The following are those technologies are the new developments of poly-phosphating and poly-metallic phosphate – Flexo and Galvo Technologies for HR, CR, Galvanneal, and tubes (hereinafter referred to as New Technologies.)”
