Mr. T Chengalvarayan was born on 12.12.1940 to a humble family of weavers. Taking up his traditional family profession,he gained expertise in the field. He started taking initiatives to set up a silk handloom in Kanchipuram. With his continued hard work and dedication he began multiplying the handlooms and successfully established over 200 looms. This laid the foundation of our brand in the silk manufacturing industry.
He started the business by manufacturing and supplying silk sarees in and around Kanchipuram. Within a short period of time, he expanded the business and emerged as a wholesale manufacturer and supplied high quality silk sarees to many lead retail stores.His client base grew rapidly due to the uncompromised quality in delivering original Pure silk sarees with silver zari.
He was blessed with two sons, C.Mohanraj and C.Somasundaram who learnt the art of weaving from a young age.The 2 brothers followed their father's footsteps and assisted him with his dream of building a huge Silk house in Kanchipuram. They took initiatives to further expand their roots to supply silk sarees all over TamilNadu. Their mesmerising Kanchipuram silk sarees also attracted famous textile stores and individual customers from Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra.
At this point, the silk weaving industry was booming rapidly and many silk looms started supplying silk sarees from places outside Kanchipuram. These were an imitation of the original Kanchipuram pure silk sarees, made of adulterated silk and fake zaris. There was a huge competition for the original Kanchipuram silk weaving business. The market was overflowing with silk sarees to such an extent that people were unable to distinguish between pure silk sarees with genuine Silver borders and imitation sarees with low quality fake borders. Customers began questioning the authenticity of silk sarees sold and started reaching out directly to the manufacturers in Kanchipuram which led to an increase in our demand. Hence we made the transition from being a home based seller to serving customers in our silk empire “T Chengalvarayan Silk", started on February 12, 2004.
