Welcome to The Colors of Nature
100% NATURAL DYES - We dye and manage the entire process of garments creation for our own brand and other brands facross the globe. It all started in 1993, when Jesus Ciriza Larraona, a Spanish national upset with water pollution, had settled in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, South India and found a family that had kept the ancient knowledge of the natural indigo fermentation dyeing processes alive for generations. Jesus and The Colours of Nature brought it back to 100% natural. The organic growth of The Colours of Nature is due to dedication, hard work, loyal employees and customers & the support of Levi Strauss & Co., who handpicked Jesus for their first Collaboratory program (theme: water saving). Jesus received a grant for upscaling. Now we have 62 submerged natural indigo fermentation vats of 1000 litres each. Maintained like babies, they receive food & care & love every day. We do regular lab checks to make sure that the indigo cakes we get remain unadulterated. Our supplier is located not far from us and they harvest the indigo leaves & extract the pigment through submerging & thrashing in water baths. Jesus continues to experiment and learn more, including growing indigo, watered by the new state of the art water treatment plant. He talks about indigo & natural dyes across the world and is always interested in hearing from other experts or novices on the topic. By now The Colours of Nature masters the entire palette, also dyeing using Indian Madder, Upcycled jackfruit tree sawdust, Myrobalan and much more. We employ artisans and make everything on site. Employing some 80 people from the Auroville bio-region, The Colours of Nature embroidery is made by hand. With many well-known brands (e.g. Story Mfg.) as our customers, our Quality Control is second to none. We also make our own garments and homeware and have two local shops, and consign to two more, in Auroville and Pondicherry. You can also buy online or express interest based on www.thecoloursofnature.com/shop.
