This detector is a small battery-operated device that scans certain frequencies looking for the signals emitted by hidden wireless security cameras. If it detects such a signal it alerts by flashing a LED light or sounding an alarm.
Wireless security cameras are miniature battery-operated spy cameras that can be hidden virtually anywhere. They transmit a signal to a receiver that can surreptitiously record activity when movement triggers the camera. Commonly called "nanny cams" for their notoriety in catching abusive caretakers in the act, these cameras have also been used to unscrupulously record people in public changing rooms, hotel rooms, public restrooms, in rented apartments and houses and in a variety of settings assumed to be private. Discovering that one of these highly affordable, tiny devices is watching and recording surreptitiously is close to impossible without a wireless camera detector.
A wireless camera detector, about the size of a cigarette lighter, is small enough to carry in your pocket or purse. It only needs to be switched on and slowly waved or pointed in various directions. You can walk through your home with it, bring it shopping and use it when you step into a changing stall or restroom, or switch it on anywhere else you expect a high degree of privacy. The detector will quickly confirm your trust or alert you that an intrusive wireless camera is watching.
Wireless camera detectors normally scan from 50MHz to 3GHz at variable distances and channels. These devices scan radio frequency (RF) waves and cannot detect closed circuit television (CCTV).
Some wireless camera detectors also locate audio bug devices. Generally these units scan a wider array of frequencies starting in the 2MHz 10MHz range, up to 3GHz. More expensive models feature locating technology to guide you to the position of the hidden camera or bug.
An alternate wireless camera detector, purportedly used by the military and now available to the public, locates both wired and wireless cams whether they are transmitting RF waves or not (i.e. whether they are turned on or off). This small device uses an array of very powerful LEDs surrounding a viewport. By looking through the viewport and depressing a button to activate the LEDs, you can slowly scan the room where cameras might be suspected. Any camera lens present, no matter how small, will create a sharp reflective pinpoint of light in the viewport.

We started by briefly describing the full-view camera, so let's take a closer look at it. If you understand Infiniti's system, you should have a good idea of how similar technologies across various manufacturers operate.
First off, rearview cameras actually capture images that are the opposite of what you really see on the display. What you see is a mirrored image with the video feed reversed so you have the proper orientation when you look at the LCD display. If you were to back up your vehicle based on the raw images from a rearview camera, you would mistakenly turn left to avoid an obstacle on the right side.

Cameras like the Infiniti's use fish-eye lenses because they can capture a wider field of view at a much closer proximity. The problems associated with fish-eye lenses are the characteristic bending or image distortion due to the curvature of the lens. Fortunately, CCD sensorscreate high-quality images, and digital-imaging software can manipulate and flip the images, so that what drivers see is a perfectly clear picture. The majority of rearview cameras found on vehicles today are hardwired systems powered by the car's battery, and digital images travel through the cables to the LCD display. Virtually all rearview cameras and screens activate when the driver puts the car in reverse.
One of the coolest rearview cameras can be found in several Toyota models, including the 4Runner. Instead of using a large LCD screen in or around the dashboard, a small display is mounted in the rearview mirror itself and activates either when the vehicle is placed in reverse or when the driver turns it on manually. Cameras in vehicles with only a rearview system are typically located somewhere near the license plate.
Again, factory-installed rearview camera systems are hardwired and reliable, but not every one operates the same. Some aftermarket systems are wireless and can be installed quickly by you or an experienced installer. The Video Door Phone is a screening device which allows you to identify and communicate with visitors at your door. Once you can see and speak to the person that wants to come in to your home, you can open the door with confidence and without the fear of being attacked. You can then see and talk to the visitor and decide whether you wish to let them in. The camera is fitted with an infrared light to allow you see your visitors when it is dark outside and the bell button is illuminated for easy visibility in the dark. You can add call diversion facility to this system.
