Cotton Canvas and also duck cloth, or cotton duck are terms used to describe any heavy, woven cotton fabric heavier than about 8 ounces per square yard (not linear yard). This material has been produced for thousands of years, it had been used for ship's sails earlier than the time of the Roman Empire. People often call just about any heavy duty fabric 'Canvas' but this is not accurate, the name only applies to heavy material woven from cotton fibers. Canvas Grommets are have been used for over 100 years to make strong, metal reinforced holes in canvas tarps and sails that would hold ropes and lines without ripping the material.

PolyVinyl materials are sometimes called vinyl canvas, whatever you call it, these materials are good for uses where you want to prevent water and other liquids from going through because it is a water resistant material. some of these vinyl materials, sometimes called bilaminate or bi-laminated fabric contain a polyester center that is surrounded by vinyl on both sides these are also waterproof material. The polyester helps make the material stronger like reinforcing rods in concrete make the concrete stronger. The polyester core does not stretch like the vinyl does, but the vinyl helps protect the polyester from water and other elements that can damage it.

Rubberized material is a term used to describe any flexible, stretchable polymer coated textile or material. The coating on the material may be for various reasons including water resistance or waterproofing, or to impart non slip, grip or friction capabilities to the substrate fabric. Material can also be rubberized (have a rubber core) and then laminated on the outside with fabric that stretches and provides a structure to the finished product, like Wetsuit material; originally used for SCUBA diving suits to keep divers comfortable by providing insulation and a warm layer of water between the wearer and the outside water.

It has been used to make clothing since 7, 000 years ago. It is different because it is the only natural fiber used to make webbing and narrow textile for mostly business use. It was used to make narrow fabric a lot before the 1940's when man made fibers such as nylon, and other man made fibers went into greater use and sent to many places.
