Three basic body designs cover the full range of applications. These units usually follow Hydrofoils on the table and drainage can be up to three times greater by the use of an external vacuum source. To deal effectively with the wide variety of conditions GL&V manufactures a comprehensive range of standard units with different numbers of blades and blade spacing so that the optimum layout can be obtained for any given machine. GL&V Vacufoil™ The Vacufoil technology is a dewatering device consisting of a sealed stainless steel foil box upon which a number of foil blades can be mounted and an external vacuum applied. GL&V Multi-Purpose Drainage Unit The Multi-Purpose Drainage unit (MPD unit) is intended for use where stock conditions, grades or speeds vary and drainage capability needs to be tailored to the dewatering demands. The MPD unit is constructed similar to a Vacufoil with a waterfall outlet. When vacuum assistance is not required the unit can be isolated and run as a normal Hydrofoil. If higher turbulence is needed, alternate blades can be replaced with control blades to actively induce micro-turbulence. GL&V TwinVac and EnerVac™ Water removal is a function of both the amount of water in the sheet and the vacuum applied. By dividing the unit into two sections, each with its own independent vacuum level, we achieve optimum water removal rates across the unit. This way, up to 50% more water can be drained by the unit compared to a conventional Vacufoil, while drag load is reduced resulting in lower energy demands. The Twin-Vac design has blades at a constant pitch across the two sections of the unit. The EnerVac™ technology operates at higher vacuums and has blades at different pitches across the two sections of the unit. The Enervac design offers a versatile dewatering system that provides improved sheet quality and economical operation. The unit is specifically designed to reduce energy consumption and improve drainage versatility. All units are made from corrosion resistant AISI 316L stainless steel. The BTF™ Hydraulic Headbox System is designed to optimize the performance of all fourdrinier machines: low speed, high speed, light weight, heavy weight, single-ply, multi-ply, coated and uncoated. It is without parallel in its ability to develop tensile ratio, fiber orientation, and sheet formation. Our lamella-equipped nozzle design eliminates tiger stripes, for improved formation and sheet surface appearance. GL&V offers a complete family of fourdriner forming sections, either in single or multiple ply versions. All components are offered from drainage equipment, structural components, rolls and suction rolls, stretchers and guiding system, breast roll lowering system, doctoring and showering. Customized approach for rebuild permits the review of existing fourdrinier; in some instances by lengthening the forming section to accommodate higher production levels or improvements in the sheet properties for machine with marginal forming length. Modernization of the structural components to permit a more efficient wire change by converting to porter bar, cantilever or C-frame arrangement, or simply replace corroded structural members. The hydrofoil unit is a dewatering device consisting of a stainless steel drainage box upon which a number of foil blades can be mounted. Normal practice is to install a number of units following the forming board, each one having the correct number of blades at the right pitch to suit the drainage conditions. To deal effectively with the wide variety of conditions, GL&V manufactures a comprehensive range of standard units with different numbers of blades and blade spacing so that the optimum layout can be obtained for any given machine. GL&V High Turbulence Hydrofoil Unit Formation is improved if the fibres can be kept moving until the majority of the sheet is formed. Flocs are broken up and drainage paths through the web and forming fabric remain open. One method of achieving movement is to use close pitched blades so the stock receives a hydraulic pulse as it passes over each leading edge. The GL&V Forming Boards are custom designed to fit your machine and suit any application. They are engineered to suit the particular geometry between the breast roll, slice and machine rails for your specific paper machine. GL&V’s new TamPulping® Recycle process is a unique and patented approach for producing high quality pulp from OCC and any other waste paper furnish. The pulping module provides a simple, reliable, and energy savings in the process to recycle paper. Our TamPulping Recycle system combines pulping, HD cleaning, and coarse screening into one process module. The primary pulper vat consistency is typically between 4.0% and 5.0%. A special two layer design of primary pulper rotor provides effective slushing and protects the screen plate from wearing. The slushed pulp is diluted as it passes through the screen plate equipped with small slots or holes. This pulp can immediately be sent forward for fine screening. The unslushed reject remains in the system where it is diluted and transferred to the secondary atmospheric pulper. This provides extended retention time for difficult to defiber raw material. The primary pulper level controls the reject outflow of the Clarifier. Dilution in the Clarifier allows removal of heavy debris from the pulp stream by gravity. The Clarifier replaces the need for high density cleaners. Subsequently the Clarifier operates better equal efficiency with a lower capital investment and zero pumping energy consumption. In the Secondary Pulper the controlled circulation intensity and additional retention time allows for recovery of deflakeable rejects from the Primary Pulper. The accepted pulp will be taken out through small perforations in the pulper screen plate. Rejects from the top of the secondary pulper are continuously removed by the reject screw conveyor to the washing drum. The washing drum will separate any remaining good fibers from the rejects. The Filtrate Screen then removes remaining small plastic flakes from the reject drum accepts. In this way the circulation of small plastics in the pulping system is minimized. The filtrate screen accepts can then be used for pulper dilution. GL&V is the world leader in oxygen delignification, having supplied over one hundred forty medium consistency oxygen delignification installations worwide. Oxygen delignification has been done in several ways, high consistency, meduim consistency, one stage or two stage. The state of the art design today is the GL&V DUALOX® system which delignification with oxygen is primarily intended to facilitate your next stage of the process, i.e. bleaching. More effective delignification enables you to reduce the use of hazardous and expensive chemicals in the bleach plant. The GL&V patented DUALOX® design with a short retention time pre-reactor followed by a booster pump and a second stage 60 minute reactor. This concept offers to enhance performance of a two stage system with a lower investment cost. The oxygen delignification system is of the GL&V patented DUALOX type in two-reactors. The process was designed using reaction kinetic equations, which were translated into a mill context. The equations state that the oxygen delignification process proceeds via two different phases, a very rapid initial phase and a slow final phase. As a consequence, the retention time is divided unequally between the two reactors, with a short retention time of 5-10 minutes designed in the first reactor and a longer retention time of 60 minutes in the second reactor. The temperature in the first reactor is kept at a lower level to treat the pulp more mildly here in order to retain as high a final viscosity as possible. In the second reactor a higher temperature to ensure that the desired outgoing kappa number is reached. In this second kinetic phase the temperature does not affect the selectivity of the process meaning that the temperature level does not compromise the high final viscosity. The pressure is kept at a high level throughout the whole of the system in order to make the oxygen dissolve easily stay in solution for as long as possible. In order to maintain a high pressure in the second reactor apart from a mixer also a booster-pump is placed between the two reactors. This way the pressure is increased to a high level again. The DUALOX system is a compact two-reactor oxygen delignification system setting a standard for the state-of-the-art technology. It allows a high delignification degree to go hand in hand with a good selectivity.
