In this project, a manufacturer of professional audio equipment contracted Globe Plastics, Inc. to provide a complete solution for a hornwave guide that is designed for use in professional audio applications. This project began with tooling design of a single cavity mold, which was derived from the customer's specifications. It utilized cost saving modular tooling specially designed for compression molding this part as well as future parts.

A customer in the lighting industry contracted Globe Plastics, Inc. to manufacture a custom LED step light housing. Globe's experienced engineers assisted the customer in finalizing the light housing design, as well as the design and fabrication of custom modular tooling in our DongGuan, China facility. Utilizing an advanced 300 ton injection molding machine and modular 1 cavity mold, the step light housings were fabricated with a highly developed thermoset injection molding process.

In this project, an aerospace customer required compression molding of an insulated nut from ablative composites composed of super high temperature quartz fiber phenolic compound. This high performance ablative composite is used in an aerospace system to prevent encapsulated metallic components from melting during re-entry into the earth's atmosphere.

A customer in the oil and gas industry needed moldings composed of BMI long glass fiber or carbon and Phenolic long glass for various oilfield components. At Globe Plastics, Inc. we specialize in compression molding processes for advanced composite applications and were an ideal fit for the project. We utilized our 80-500 ton capacity compression molding machines for the 1 cavity compression molding and over molding. We also molded-in threads and inserts to provide a flexural strength of 135 MPa at 250˚C and a flex modulus of 13 GPa at 250˚C. We molded the BMI with long glass fiber or carbon and Phenolic long glass with a material thickness of .75". After secondary CNC machining the overall component dimensions were 7" in length, 10" in diameter, with a height of 10". The component weights ranged from 20-1800 grams. The shrinkage allowance was 0, with a tolerance of ±.002". Non-destructive testing was completed in addition to providing a certificate of conformance. We produce 100-1000 oilfield components annually for the US, Canada, and Mexico with a lead time of 4-6 weeks. This project highlights our premier molding capabilities at Globe Plastics for applications requiring high strength or heat resistance.
