At Hirsch Machine, Inc., we operate a state of the art facility that is equipped with a wide range of advanced machining systems; this is why customers seek us out for expert, horizontal CNC machining. Using 4-axis machinery, we provide processes such as threading, drilling, boring, tapping, broaching, counterboring, countersinking, pocketing, profiling and many others. Our equipment features full CNC control with pallet changing that allows lights out un-manned operation. Work Pieces can be very small and as large as 18” X 22” X 31” and weigh up to 750lbs. Utilizing this cutting edge machinery, extremely high degrees of accuracy are possible, including tolerances as close as +- 0.0001”. We can work with nearly every metal and plastic, some of which include aluminum, brass, stainless steel, specialty alloys as well as nearly every type of plastic. Our primary specialty is medium-sized runs of 10 to 1000 medical device components high vacuum chambers and hardware, but we have manufactured in other fields as well. At Hirsch Machine, Inc., we have been providing high quality machining services since 1981. We have an assortment of CNC and manual machines that can manufacture nearly any type of metal or plastic part. Our CNC machining centers can accurately and efficiently produce parts as large as 10" x 20' x 40" holding tolerances as close as .001" on locations and .0002" on sizes. Our CNC turning centers make round parts as large as 8" in diameter and 20" long. We also have multi axis lathes that can simultaneously turn and mill eliminating many secondary operations. These CNC lathes can machine nearly any metal or plastic hold tolerances as close as .0002". All lathe and mill operations are supported by our inspection staff to insure correct high quality parts. Hirsch Machine Inc. works with nearly all metals and plastics, for example, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, steel, stainless steel Inconel alloys as well as ABS, acetal, acrylic, nylon, PDF, polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, PTFE, and Vespel. Our high tech equipment works to uncompromising levels of accuracy, with closest tolerances of up to +- .0001” available. We also provide consulting, design, custom engineering, inspection, and testing services to assist at every level of product development and manufacturing. The efficiency of our operation is also demonstrated by our automation that enables us to run 2 to 3 shifts of lights- out manufacturing. An analytic instrument company needed a custom vacuum chamber that provided intricate holders for all of their components that were to be assembled in the vacuum chamber. This chamber was 6” thick 14” wide and 21” long and was hollowed out creating a large tub. The challenge with these types of parts is to maintain accuracy while machining away a lot of metal and not incurring warping or movement from the machining process. We worked with the engineers to optimize the machining by increasing the space between features so we were able to use larger cutters and speed up the process. We selected our Okuma horizontal 4 axis CNC mill with a large (50 taper spindle) to handle this large part. Initially this part took over eight hours to produce but after we consulted with cutting tool manufacturers and the machine tool company we eventually lowered the run time to 5.75 hours and we passed the savings on to the customer. These parts were polished to a high surface finish that helped speed up the vacuum pump down time. We also used special screw threads so there would be no virtual leaks from the threaded holes. Turnaround time for this project was 4 weeks with JIT deliveries, however faster lead times are available. Approximately 100 vacuum chambers are produced annually for this customer, shipping to locations across the USA.
