Machining utilized our state of the art vertical bridge machining centers for large part manufacturing. This included our 3 axis Awea VP2012 with high precision contour control and 77" x 47" x 34" work envelope, our SNK RB2NM with its 107" x 66" x 48" work envelope and 5 face and probing capabilities. Composed of 6061-T6 aluminum, this large scale project required tolerances as tight as +0.002 -0.000". The finished dimensions were 69.19" long x 19.69" wide x 11.85" high, with a smooth 63 RMS finish. After machining, the part was deburred and 50 keenserts of various sizes were installed.

This project posed a number of aesthetic and structural demands, including the accommodation of multi-directional pedestrian traffic as well as being ADA complient. We were able to creatively manufacture this large part to the specialized design criteria using our advanced SNK RB2NM 5 face bridge type machining center, with a custom built blade system to cut the 135 grooves .125 dp x .125 wide x 58" long. The hot rolled, annealed, and pickled 304L stainless steel was milled to a finished dimension of 6'-2¼" long x 5' wide x 34" thick, while holding the tightest tolerance of ±0.005". The part was then deburred, A U channel welded on the bottom, cleaned, and packaged for shipment.
