The best time to kill adult mosquitoes by fogging is at dusk, when they are most active and looking for food (mosquitoes feed on human or animal blood). Fog primarily targets flying mosquitoes, which is why timing of the spray is critical. A thermal fogger (as opposed to a cold fogger) produces a thick pesticide fog or smoke by heating the fogging solution. It produces a nice insect fog that is directed to areas where it would like to kill mosquitoes, and other biting pests. During the fogging, flying mosquitoes within the treated area are killed. Although the local mosquito population is reduced for a few days, fogging does not prevent mosquitoes from re-entering the area.

It can also be used for fumigating storage structures like silos warehouses, flour mills ship holds, railcars etc.rn*Methyl Bromide is most widely used fumigant for quarantine purposes. It is a preferred fumigant for most of the quarantine authorities around the world, because of its good penetrating ability, rapid action, high toxicity to a broad spectrum of insects and pests.

Termites (white ants) are highly specialized social insects. They form colonies (nests) and have three distinct forms (castes). The castes are king and queen (whose only function is reproduction), the soldiers (defend the colony against enemies) and the workers (build the colony, take care of the young and provide food for the colony). There are two groups namely subterranean (live inside soil) and dry wood/ damp wood. Subterranean termites build colonies in the soil. The population of each colony may go up to several millions. Workers form the bulk of the colony, move out and travel even long distances in search of food.rnTermite Detection: In most cases, detection is difficult in the initial stages. As they move within the walls or in undisturbed areas, they get unnoticed. Only after considerable damage is caused and in few cases, even their damage remains undetected as the exposed surfaces remain intact or the paint hides the damage. By the time they are detected, the damage caused is severe and beyond repair.rnObjective: This treatment aims at eradicating the existing infestation (curative) and preventing re- infestation (protective).rnChemicals: (Imidacloprid 30.5% SC)- This chemical is widely used of late in western countries. They do not have repellent action and hence termites cross over them. These chemicals are picked up by them and taken to the colony. Thus there is more likelihood of the whole colony getting eliminated. In India, not much work has been carried out with these chemicals and hence the guaranteed results have not been accounted so far.
