The seismic refraction method is widely used in engineering site investigations, groundwater search and mineral exploration. Seismic refraction methods provide an effective and efficient means to obtain general information about large volumes of the subsurface in the two dimensions of depth and horizontal distance. Information provided by seismic refraction includes compression wave (p-wave) velocities within the investigated subsurface profile.

The Crosshole seismic survey yields valuable information as to the strength and cohesiveness of the underlying sediment and bedrock. Crosshole Seismic Surveys measure the time for horizontally traveling compressional (P) and shear (S) waves to travel from a source borehole to a receiver borehole. Travel times are used to determine P and S wave velocities, which can be used to compute Poisson’s ratio, as well as the other elastic moduli.

The Electrical Resistivity Survey technique is applicable in ground water exploration, bed rock mapping, mineral exploration etc. Resistivity measurements can be interpreted qualitatively and quantitatively in terms of a lithologic and geohydrologic model of the subsurface.
