  ULTRA FILTRATION Ultrafiltration (UF) is a variety of membrane filtration in which hydrostatic pressure forces a liquid against a semipermeable membrane. Suspended solids and solutes of high molecular weight are retained, while water and low molecular weight solutes pass through the membrane. This separation process is used in industry and research for purifying and concentrating macromolecular (103 - 106 Da) solutions, especially protein solutions. Ultrafiltration is not fundamentally different from microfiltration or nanofiltration, except in terms of the size of the molecules it retains. Mostly, ultrafiltration is applied in cross-flow mode and separation in ultrafiltration undergoes concentration polarization. UF membranes typically have pore sizes in the range of 0.01 - 0.10 µm. It is much the same as reverse osmosis. The key difference is the high degree of removal of monovalent ions, multivalent salts and low molecular weight organics in the reject. Reverse osmosis removes the monovalent ions at 98-99% level at 200 psi. Nano filtration membranes’ removal of monovalent ions varies between 50% to 90% depending on the material and manufacture of the membrane. There is variety of Nano filtration membranes available. The TBR™ is an advanced MBBR™ biofilm technology is based on specially designed plastic biofilm carriers or biocarriers that are suspended and in continuous movement within a tank or reactor of specified volume. The design of associated aerators, grids, sieves, spray nozzles and other integral parts to the reactor is also of great importance in making up the system as a whole, which is what Wock Oliver is marketing . The industrial and municipal wastewater is led to the MBBR™ treatment reactor where biofilm, growing within the internal structures of the biocarriers, degrade the pollutants. These pollutants that need to be removed in order to treat the wastewater are food or substrate for growth of the biofilm. The biocarrier design is critical due to requirements for good mass transfer of substrate and oxygen to the microorganisms and there is a continuous R&D in the area of the MBBR™ biofilm technology . Excess biofilm sloughs off the biocarrier in a natural way . Treated water flows from reactor through a grid or a sieve, which retains the MBBR™ biocarriers in the reactor. Wock-Oliver's DAF , Dissolved air floatation clarifier has been widely used for industrial wastewater treatment. The typical industrial wastes treated by flotation are paper mill backwater, oily wastewater as well effluents from sugar, dairy, textile industries and tanneries.  Dissolved air flotation clarifiers or dissolved air flotation units (with 3 - 5 minutes of detention time) can replace sedimentation (with 2 - 3 hours of detention time) for clarification, has been overlooked by environmental engineers for many decades. Modern high rate DAF clarifiers have advanced to such an extent that they could overshadow conventional settling clarifiers in wastewater treatment.  DAF hydraulic loading has increased from 1 L/m2.s to 2.5 L/m2.s and for a triple stacked unit to 7.5 L/m2.s. The detention time has decreased from 30 minutes to 3 minutes. Air dissolving is improved and now requires only 10 seconds retention time in the air mixing tube instead of the previous 60 seconds. The smaller size and weight of a modern DAF unit allow for inexpensive construction and flexibility of erection using prefabricated units. The availability of excellent flocculating chemicals gives a high stability of operation and high clarification degree. wock-oliver’s filter presses are used for the purpose of dewatering sludge and slurry produced in wastewater treatment, and chemical and mineral processing. Most wastewater treatment processes will produce sludge or slurry that is commonly disposed as a liquid waste. This sludge or slurry can be dehydrated in an wock-oliver’s filter press via a method called sludge dewatering. By using an wock-oliver’s filter press a reduction of up to 90% sludge volume can be achieved. in most instances the sludge or slurry is conditioned with polyelectrolyte and then dewater in an wock-oliver’s filter press to produce a solid dry filter cake. the filter press has been the focus of manufacturing for many years.
