The diffusers clogging is a common effect due to the content of organic material or salt in the mixed liquor. This phenomenon can determine a rapid reduction of the performance of the system depending on the nature of sewage treated. For this application, the following acid are used: Formic acid (85% solution) for EPDM membrane only; Acetic acid (85% solution) EPDM silicone or PU membrane. Acetic acid, remove most of the fouling in the membrane perforations without affecting the biological process. It is also be non-aggressive on steel pipe in AISI 304/316. Uninterrupted Operations It is not necessary to empty the tanks or to extract the air grids to clean the diffusers, therefore the biological process has not to be interrupted by cleaning operations.
