Brief technical description features.The catalyst filter consist of number of tubular s.s. Candles inside a pressure vessel similar to pressure leaf filter. Each s.s typical candle is covered with suitable high pressure filter cloth which snuggly fits around the curved surface during filtration.During the catalyst recovery cycle, filter cloth is lifted from the curved surface and this movement causes the catalyst caketo release from the filter cloth. Due to typical cylindrical filter element design, very large filtration area per volume is achieved.Thorough easy back washing is achieved due to effective manifold design.Cake discharge: the cake is discharge in a semi dry form by relasing a pulse on nitrogen from the pulse buffer tank. This pulse will either pulse back a volume of liquid that will clean the filter tubes candles in jet mode by reversed flow to create wet slurry cake discharge. In the case of dry cake discharge is required the cake will first be blown dry with nitrogen steam and then a reversed pulse of nitrogen will be jet-pulsed by reversed flow to dry discharge the cake.

Filter water is evenly collected by an under drain system in the bottom of the vessel & flow through the outlet to service. At normal flow rate a clean filter bed presents little resistance to the passage of water but as the suspended matter is removed from the water, steady rise in the loss of head occurs across the quartz bed. Cleaning of filter bed is affected by passing a reverse upward flow of water through the filter for approximately 5 minutes with the help of frontal piping arrangements.

The filter leaves, filter on both sides due to which gross leaf filtration area obtained is more in relatively small sized vessel. The required oil slurry is pumped into the filter vessel, clear filtration starts as the sufficient cake is built over the leaf surfaces and filtered oil comes out through the manifold. The solid keeps getting accumulated on the filter leaves and a thick cake is formed. Once the pressure reaches 3.5 Kgcm2, the cake is dried with hot airsteam and relived from the leaves by pneumatically operated piston vibrator and drops through a large size bottom outlet. The design pressure is 4Kgcm2 & design temperature is 120deg.C
